Looks Like Phantom Blade Zero Isn’t Coming Out Anytime Soon

The devs have hinted the actual release window of the game to a YouTuber.

Story Highlights

  • Phantom Blade Zero is an upcoming action-adventure Soulslike title, releasing for the PS5 and PC.
  • As per a YouTuber who recently played a portion of the game during SGF, the game will be launched in 2026.
  • It’s worth mentioning that Phantom Blade Zero has only been in development for 2 years.

JorRaptor, a well-known gaming YouTuber who tried out the Phantom Blade Zero demo at the Summer Game Fest last month, has uploaded a video on his channel, sharing his thoughts about the upcoming action-adventure Soulslike. Jor has claimed that while the game looks, feels, and plays fantastic, there is bad news waiting for fans with regard to Phantom Blade’s official release.

According to the YouTuber, S-Game — the developer — plans on releasing Phantom Blade Zero no sooner than “fall 2026.” I’ll admit that this is way longer than what some of us fans had in mind initially, although it has also been concerning that the devs have been radio silent up until now regarding the game’s launch.

60 FPS on PS5, but the bad news is, that they planned the launch in fall 2026. So it’s still long ways away sadly, but let them take their time. I think they got something special on their hands,” says JorRaptor.

Phantom Blade Zero Has Only Been In Development Since 2022

This right here is the main reason why the “fall 2026” release window makes sense. In an interview that was conducted in June this year, S-Game made it public knowledge that Phantom Blade’s development “commenced in 2022.” On average, a AAA title of this size and stature typically takes somewhere around 2-7 years to develop, so the proposed release window in question does not seem far off

Although it started in 2022, there were more people living at home at that time, and everyone mainly wrote design documents at home. From the end of 2022 to the beginning of 2023, we got together to develop more efficiently for a period of time. Then we went to Sony’s press conference,” said S-Game at the time (rough translation of the Chinese text).

In other news, eXputer also spoke with Soulframe, the CEO of S-Game, in an attempt to get some of our burning questions answered. Among other replies, the dev says that Phantom Blade Zero could feature specific 2D sequences in-game for the “memory world, phantom illusions, or other scenes different from reality.”

Phantom Blade Zero will launch for the PS5 and PC, tracing its initial announcement to May 25, 2023.
