Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, New DLC Announced

The DLC expansion will supposedly be a spy-thriller set in an entirely new district of Cyberpunk's Night City

From the makers of the widely critically acclaimed Witcher 3, CD Projekt Red has crafted the world of Cyberpunk 2077, which can be massive and overwhelming at times. The game boasts a sprawling open-world chock-full of Gigs to do, the best weapons to acquire, and many bizarre NPCs to meet along the way.

However, not everything was smooth sailing for the game. It was first announced in 2012 and teased in 2013, but no information was revealed for years.

This was likely due to the developer CD Projekt Red being involved heavily in developing Witcher 3: Wild Hunt first and then its extensive DLC expansions Hearts of Stone, and Blood and Wine.

Afterward, the developer turned its attention back to Cyberpunk, but the game had a rocky launch. Though the game was lauded for its gameplay, it was rife with bugs and other issues including running very badly on older gen consoles, that lead to much derision from fans.

Now the game has been receiving updates and in the latest Night City Wire stream, a new DLC has been announced. Dubbed Phantom Liberty, it sees Keanu Reeves return as Johnny Silverhand.

The DLC expansion will yet again feature V and Johnny Silverhand. The expansion will supposedly be a spy-thriller set in a new and never before seen District of Night City. It should also be noted that Phantom Liberty will only be arriving on the current generation of consoles in addition to PC.

That means while the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S will be getting the expansion, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will not be getting it. Patch 1.6 will also be the last patch for last-generation consoles.

Players are surely excited to tackle this DLC and of course, see more of Johnny as he was a beloved character in Cyberpunk 2077 and fans will no doubt gobble up any opportunity to see him again.

The fact that Johnny is played by the amazing Keanu Reeves, who will be returning for this expansion, is the cherry on top. How good this expansion is only time will tell but going by CDPR’s track record, we can expect good things, and hope that they deliver.

CDPR also announced in the Night City Wire stream that today Cyberpunk 2077 will be getting an Edgerunners update based on the upcoming Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime. The update consists of:

  • Roach Race mini-game (also on app stores)
  • Martinez jacket
  • Transmog
  • New Ripperdoc additions
  • New photo mode additions

In addition, it was announced that in the future, there will be a complete overhaul of the police system and vehicle-to-vehicle combat will also be overhauled.
