Story Highlights
- Mario Kart Tour has announced Yoshi’s Island as the game’s latest race course.
- In the image shared by the game’s official Twitter, there seems to be a character hiding. Fans instantly recognized it to be Poochy from previous Mario games.
- Fans think Poochy might be returning as a playable character, as he’s seen racing on a Kart in the image.
Mario Kart Tour’s official Twitter account announced another course for the mobile racing game, Yoshi’s Island, which recently got added to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe through the Wave 4 of Booster Course Pass DLC. With all the excitement regarding having the brand new track on the plate, something else has caught fans’ eyes, fairly doubling the excitement.
If you zoom in on the image Mario Kart Tour’s Twitter dropped, and if you’re keen enough, you’ll see a kart racer behind the warp pipe, that’s Poochy, most probably the next playable character in the game coming alongside Yoshi. Unlike from Yoshi’s Island of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, where Poochy was seen dozing off, he’s all set and racing in this current track image, almost confirming him as playable.
No way. No. Way. No way. No way. Way not. Not the way. Way is not. Way. Not. Way isn't way. Not a way. The way ? No. Not the very not. Not is not way. The way doesn't. Way no. No. No. No. Yes yeah. But no way. No way. Unbelievable. Too good to be true.

Fans are super excited about the addition of a brand-new character to the Mario Kart Tour. With this, Poochy is all set to make his Mario Kart debut as a playable character. In fact, this will be the first time Poochy will be playable apart from Tetris Attack. All the hype around Poochy on the Kart is also because many of the recent additions to Mario Kart Tour were only alternate costumes for the same previous characters.
Poochy is a platypus-dog hybrid character who made his debut in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island and reappeared in the remake, Yoshi’s Island: Super Mario Advance 3. Poochy later made an appearance in Tetris Attack, where Kamek brainwashed him. Making Yoshi fight the poor pup was the only way to save him. He would eventually succeed in doing so, saving Poochy and making him a playable character.
Poochy then appeared in a number of Mario games having major roles in Yoshi’s Woolly World and its Nintendo 3DS port Poochy & Yoshi’s Woolly World. He has minor cameos and appearances in selected levels of other Mario games as well. Yoshi and Poochy make a strong duo as Poochy debuted with Yoshi and appeared in a number of games with him, including Yoshi’s Story, Yoshi’s New Island, and Yoshi’s Crafted World.
Poochy has chemistry with Yoshi, and probably that is why Nintendo decided to send the pup along with its long-known partner. More into this, fans are speculating Poochy to appear in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, as Yoshi’s Island has already been announced in 4th wave of Booster Course Pass, Poochy might be barking his way through 5th or 6th wave as a playable character, or he might not as well.
As fans noticed from the empty slots on the character selection screen, Booster Course Pass will feature five new characters, and all of them will be returning from old Mario games, as per an official Nintendo press release on wave 4. With Birdo being announced in 4th wave, Poochy can be expected as well in the next waves.
Mario Kart Tour is a 2019 mobile racing game and is available to play on iOS and Android devices.
