TeamKill Media has announced that the PlayStation 4 version of Quantum Error is being canceled. The upcoming sci-fi horror game has been developed from scratch with Sony‘s PS5 in mind. Despite that, developers believed they could get the game working on the PS4 albeit with some downgrades. However, this is no longer possible due to what the team has achieved on the current-gen console in terms of performance.
Unfortunately, we are going to have to cancel the PS4 version of QE. Even with the game being made from the beginning for the PS5, we still had hopes we could make a PS4 version happen, but with the level of quality we have achieved with QE with gameplay running at 60fps, we have…

According to the developers, Quantum Error is running at 60FPS on the PlayStation 5. In response to a user, the official Twitter account also stated that the game will be operating at a resolution of 2K in addition to the frame rate. Getting the game to work on PS4 would require a lot of downgrading and asset changes. In addition to the slow speeds of the console’s HDD, it was decided that the project will be killed.
These claims appear to be consistent with some of the previous statements made by the dev team. TeamKill Media has emphasized how Quantum Error was designed specifically for the hardware of Sony’s PS5, including its extremely fast SSD. Additionally, they stated that the Xbox Series X version was being hindered due to its slow drive speeds and that work on optimization was underway.
This led to several fans claiming that the gameplay revealed thus far did not look impressive. Furthermore, the cancellation of the PS4 version has resulted in several users expressing their doubts about the devs’ comments regarding the SSDs, despite having previously clarified that the last-gen version of Quantum Error would be massively downgraded.
No longer releasing the project on the PS4, TeamKill Media is now developing a game that was built for PS5 from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5, placing this project on the radar.
Quantum Error is in the works for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S.
