Average daily active users were 66.1 million in the first quarter of 2023.

Story Highlights

  • Roblox amassed 14.5 billion hours in the first quarter of 2023 alone, a 22% climb from last year.
  • It also averaged 66.1 million users in Q1 showcasing 23% growth year-on-year.
  • This was the company’s best quarter with respect to playtime and daily users.
  • Even though net losses saw an increase, it made $665 million in profit this quarter.
  • Stats also revealed that most players are from Asia and the Pacific and are aged over 13.

Roblox users spent a whopping 14.5 billion hours playing the game in just the first three months of 2023. As per the company’s quarter one financial reports, 66.1 million people clocked in daily on average to play the online game. For context, that is equivalent to almost everyone in the UK logging in daily to play the title for nearly 2.5 hours.

Hence, it isn’t a surprise that the company earned over $665 million in revenue this quarter. This was a 22% increase Year-on-Year for Roblox as compared to Q1 of 2022. But, it also lost a lot of money with net losses amounting to $268.3 million in this quarter. A staggering rise of 67.5% in losses as compared to last year suggests that the online juggernaut is also hemorrhaging a lot of money.

Coming back to the daily user statistic, the 66.1 million figure is a 22% increase in contrast with Q1 2022. In addition, the 14.5 billion hours users engaged in the game saw a similar growth of 23% year-on-year. Roblox also employs over 2300 people now, expanding from 1700 it had last year. Hence, most of the results reflect positively upon the company, making this quarter a big success.

The first quarter financial results also give us an in-depth look at the different age groups playing Roblox. Users under 13 spent 5.9 billion hours on the game, an increase of 10% compared to Q1 FY2022. On the other hand, players aged over 13 spent 8.3 billion hours on the title, showing 33% growth. Therefore, people over the age of 13 are spending more time on the game as compared to the younger demographic.

Graphs for daily active users discovered by MauroNL also back this up as you can see more than half of the 66.1 million daily users are from the 13+ brackets. We also get some info about the different regions playing Roblox in these documents. Canada and the USA accounted for 3.4 billion of the 14.5 billion hours spent this quarter, a 21% increase from last year.

On the other hand, players from the APAC regions spent the most time on the game with 4 billion hours. It even grew by 8% this quarter and while Europe showed the biggest surge, it also accumulated the least time. Players from the region spent 3.1 billion hours on Roblox but this was a 21% expansion in contrast with 2022. The rest of planet Earth spent 3.7 billion hours on Roblox, growing 28% as compared to Q1 FY2022.

User data also backs this up as most of the players log in from Asia and Pacific with Europe and USA/Canada being close second. Just like every other stat, the daily users based on the region also showed a positive trend. APAC and the rest of the world brought in 27% more players in Q1 FY2023 in relation to last year. European users grew by 18% and USA/Canada showcased a 16% increase to wrap up Roblox’s best quarter regarding playtime/daily users.

It seems like the 2006 game is showing no signs of stopping as this quarterly revenue was its best ever. With TV shows and much more based on Roblox in the works, the global phenomenon is only going to expand.
