Several Atlus Games Might Be Coming To Xbox Game Pass

The leak suggests a release for Steam and Windows Store as well.

Story Highlights

  • An image has surfaced on 4chan, implying several mainline Shin Megami Tensei games are heading to Xbox Game Pass and PC. The image also shows the series’ 30th-anniversary logo.
  • A similar rumor surfaced in December 2022. Shin Megami Tensei V was also mentioned in the GeForce Now data leak of 2021. These events lend some credence to the image.
  • The availability of Persona games and Soul Hackers 2 on Game Pass shows the intentions of all parties involved.
  • The 30th anniversary of Shin Megami Tensei was announced by Atlus. Considering its track record, if this rumor is rooted in truth, the games will be revealed during the celebration.

According to a message board on 4chan, several Atlus games from the acclaimed Shin Megami Tensei series might be coming to Xbox Game Pass. Based on the leak, Shin Megami Tensei 3, IV, IV: Final, and Shin Megami Tensei V will be the new additions to Xbox’s subscription service. The image also shows Windows Store and Steam, which has revitalized old rumors surrounding the series.

Another thing that this image shows is the logo for the series’ 30th anniversary. Following the release of Shin Megami Tensei V in 2021, a GeForce Now leak suggested that the game would be getting a PC port (the original GitHub repository is no longer accessible).

While the dates listed in the leak weren’t accurate, several titles mentioned saw their releases which adds some degree of credibility to this. Prior to the release of the fifth mainline entry, Atlus released an HD remaster of Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne on PlayStation 4, Steam, and Nintendo’s Switch.

While this rumor must be taken with a huge serving of skepticism, it’s worth noting the current situation of the series. Atlus has been releasing its titles from the Megami Tensei franchise on new platforms since 2020, starting with Persona 4 Golden on Steam. This was followed by Persona 5 Strikers and the HD remaster of the third mainline game in 2021.

During the 25th anniversary of the Persona series, Atlus revealed that Persona 3 Portable, Persona 4 Golden, and Persona 5 Royal would arrive on all modern platforms. This included the Game Pass as well, which came as a surprise to many, and for good reason. Furthermore, Soul Hackers 2 was launched on PC along with other platforms and is now on the subscription service as well.

Atlus has announced that the 30th anniversary of Shin Megami Tensei will take place in May 2023. Looking at the studio’s track record, we can assume that there might be some news regarding this at the celebration. The studio is aware of the demand for Megami Tensei games across all platforms, and it would be unusual not to capitalize on it. A similar rumor surfaced in December 2022, which adds more fuel to the fire.

Fans have been skeptical as the leak excludes the first two games of the mainline series. While the argument can be considered, Atlus has been rather questionable when it comes to handling the first two games from Persona and SMT. In terms of UI redesign for SMT IV & IV: Final, the studio recently ported some Etrian Odyssey titles to PC, which were developed for Nintendo DS. It’s safe to assume that such a task should not pose a problem.

For now, the best course of action would be to wait for the anniversary celebration and take this leak with a grain of salt. If these games are heading to new platforms, Atlus will most likely make the announcement during the celebration.
