Shinigami: Shibito Magire Coming As Spirit Hunter: Death Mark II In West

The much-awaited sequel to the award-winning horror visual novel released in 2018 is coming to all audiences by 2023.

Aksys Games Official is known for releasing anime-styled experiences, like XBlaze Lost: Memories.  These games go unnoticed by the larger public, so the major audience mostly consists of loyal players. However, Aksys Games Official plays this to its advantage and focuses on its defining games, like Shinigami: Shibito Magire.

Recently, at AX (Anime Expo) 2022, the company announced Spirit Hunter: Death Mark II, a sequel to one of its greatest games, which is coming out as Shinigami: Shibito Magire in Japan, in September. The story is set in a Tokyo suburb. The player takes the role of Kazuo Yashiki, who is hired to infiltrate a school as a teacher to investigate gruesome, spiritual incidents that occur there every ten years.

Like previous Spirit Hunter games, it is an adventure game. It also incorporates some gameplay styles and elements from tabletop role-playing games. The main gameplay is mostly consistent with point-and-click antics and some quick-time events. It also contains elements not suitable for children.

The general idea for the first title was that a strange rumor is spreading in the Tokyo suburb; those who possess the “mark” will die from unknown causes. While the story for the first title was more general, the sequel takes a streamlined approach.

While other horror games of this genre don’t go deep into storytelling and stay on the side of mindless puzzles, the Spirit Hunter games typically focus on both story and gameplay. These games latch a feeling of mystery and fear into the player right from the moment the game starts.

The company also gave us a minor hint of a possible release on major platforms. This ensures that these games can finally be played by all audiences. The reviews of the first game were extremely positive, and its no doubt that this game will reach grander heights.
