STALKER 2 Screenshots and Artwork Revealed

Truly Next-gen

GSC Game World has recently revealed more screenshots of the upcoming Slavic post-apocalyptic FPS STALKER 2 and it looks beyond beautiful. The game was also mentioned to be nearly an absurd 180 gigs and looking at the screenshots it makes sense where all that space is going towards.

STALKER 2 is looking to be vastly more colorful than the previous games which edged significantly more on the dark and gloomy side, although knowing STALKER this is probably another Zone-induced anomaly.
A shot showing the claustrophobic environments and interior of the Zone, as well as an enemy that looks like the Controller from the previous games.

The STALKER series has always been held back by a lack of polish due to the lower budget the games were made on but one thing they always managed to get right were the visuals and atmosphere. Even back in 2007’s Shadow of Chernobyl, the series offered a unique take on Post-Apocalyptic Horror in a way not many games would deliver on until 2010’s Metro 2033 developed by 4A games.

STALKER 2 also looks to retain the original’s depressing gloomy atmosphere as well its threatening array of wild mutant animals out to get you while you explore.
A screenshot showing what is possibly one of the many anomalies you will encounter while making your way through the Zone.

The series stemmed from a novel called “Roadside Picnic” written by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky back in 1972 which was later adapted in 1979 into Andrei Tarkovsky’s film called “Stalker”. I haven’t read the book but I have seen the film and its a masterpiece that I think everyone should watch. Its about 3 men exploring the Zone in search of the wish granter so they can get their wishes fulfilled while also dealing with the “Zone” as an entity and its various tricks and anomalies.

Fifty Thousand people used to live here, now its a ghost town.

The inspiration from the movie is very much visible in the games as well and seeing these rusty, grass covered environments of the Zone in next-gen fidelity is certainly a sight that is one to behold. Another thing about these screenshots that tingles my almonds is that Metro was always hailed as “next-gen STALKER” and now seeing all this and realizing STALKER looks just as not good if not even better than Metro is just a really wholesome feeling. STALKER 2 comes out next year on April 28th, 2022.
