Tekken 8 Shop Feature To Focus On Keeping Game “Fresh” Instead Of Monetization

The shop will feature both free and paid items.

Story Highlights

  • Yasuda Esports has said that the Tekken 8 shop feature will focus on keeping the game fresh.
  • The devs will not focus on making money off individual items. Instead, the shop will provide a better overall experience.
  • The microtransactions will be invested into the title to work on more features.

The Tekken 8 fans have been upset by the reveal of the shop feature. It left a bitter aftertaste in the mouth of the community, but the devs have attempted to clear the air in a new interview. In the latest Tekken Talk Live podcast, the team discussed the post-release roadmap for the title and claimed that the shop feature is meant to improve the player experience rather than focusing on making money off individual items (from 16:43).

We hear that some people might have some kind of allergic reaction when they hear ‘shop,’ but it’s more trying to update the game and keep it fresh with new customization items,” said Yasuda Esports.

The shop will feature both free and paid items to keep a healthy balance. Additionally, the shop will allegedly help the team ensure longevity, and this is just one of the ways that the devs are exploring.

As you’ve seen what we did with Tekken 7, we tried to refresh the game and provide a better experience overall, rather than just trying to make money off of these individual items. The thinking is the same for Tekken 8.”

The shop will drop with the second update for the game, planned for late February to early March. The microtransactions made from it will also be invested back into the game for further improvements.
