Story Highlights

  • The new Last of Us Part 1 PC patch has arrived and improves features like texture, framerate, and loading.
  • Update 1.0.5 also fixes many crashes and bugs but you do need the latest version of your driver for optimal performance.

Developer Naughty Dog has released a new patch for the PC version of The Last of Us Part 1 that focuses on further improving the port’s performance. Titled patch 1.0.5, this update refines many features of the game like texture fidelity, framerate, and level loading. In addition, it also fixes many of the bugs in the port, and patch notes have also come out to give us an in-depth look at the changes.

As per the notes, this patch reduces shader building times, and downloading it will trigger a full shader build. Furthermore, you need the latest version of your driver downloaded to optimize your experience. For AMD Software, the latest driver is Adrenalin Edition 23.4.3 which also has a fix for the “longer than expected shader compilation time” bug. In the case of NVIDIA, the GeForce Game Ready Driver 531.79 is the latest version.

Moving on to the changes, update 1.0.5 has optimized the code to improve the title’s global CPU performance. The Last of Us Part 1 will also have upgraded content across several levels after this new patch. In addition, the level of loading has improved massively and the amount of loading screens will decrease. Hence, you will have to face a lower number of “Please Wait” screens after the application of this patch.

Next up, an Effects Density setting will be a part of The Last of Us Part 1 following this update. You can also adjust the density and number of non-critical visual effects by accessing Graphics from Options. Furthermore, Crowd sizes have increased on low and medium Ambient Character Density settings with an additional option of “Very Low.”

You will also see additional scalability tuning for low and medium in-game graphic settings in the game from now on. Moreover, the VRAM impact of texture quality settings has been reduced, allowing most players to increase this aspect or get better performance with the current settings. Several crash fixes are also a part of this new The Last of Us Part 1 update.

Crashes occurring while the game started on Windows 11 and Intel Arch have been rectified. In addition, the update has also fixed a crash that happened while starting a New Game in Left Behind prior to shader building completion. From now on, your camera won’t stutter when point it at the floor while aiming. The update has also fixed a bug where sniping sensitivity was not applying to scoped weapons in The Last of Us Part 1.

Furthermore, you can easily click on “Jump To Unbound” when it comes up in custom control settings. Patch 1.0.5 has overhauled a bug where changing graphics settings during gameplay would restart the player at the incorrect checkpoint. The issue preventing the adjustments to Lens Flare from applying has also been rectified. In Left Behind, the update has fixed an issue of soft locking players when they jumped into electrified water.

Last but not least, some changes have come to AMD only and that mainly includes improvements to load times. These were all of the changes part of The Last of Us Part 1 patch 1.0.5 which is out for PC right now.
