Story Highlights
- The Witcher 4 will continue the adventures of Master Witcher Geralt of Rivia.
- It will serve as an entry point for new players while providing value for long-time fans.
- The devs want to continue in the same direction without The Witcher 4 feeling like the same old thing.
The legendary witcher, Geralt of Rivia, may not be retiring anytime soon as The Witcher 4 hints at his return. In a recent interview with Italian outlet Lega Nerd, Sebastian Kalemba spoke at length about the creative direction the upcoming entry will take following the natural conclusion of The Witcher 3 and its expansion packs.
Before directing the next trilogy of The Witcher, Kambela worked at CD Projekt Red in several roles such as Lead Animator, Head of Animation, and Creative Director. When asked about the creative path The Witcher 4 will take, Sebastian explained that the team wants to continue in the same direction without it feeling like the same game. With certain lore restrictions in place, the devs will not be able to go beyond certain limits which is where innovation comes in place.
We want to continue in the same direction we had taken, but we don’t want to play the same game, I would say that this is a given. We have some elements of the lore that need to be confirmed, on the other hand the universe is always the same and we cannot go beyond certain limits. We must therefore follow a very specific direction by innovating.”

Continuing his response, Kambela spoke about how the game is still years away from release. Keeping the time gap in mind, it’s clear that the team would have to attract a new audience sometime down the road. Therefore, the first title in the upcoming trilogy will serve as an entry point for new players but it won’t forget the ones who are fond of the original saga and want to experience more of Geralt’s adventures.
The next chapter will arrive in a few years and many years after the last The Witcher, so we cannot expect to target only the audience who was already fond of the saga. We also need to create a new community and on this I think I can say that it will be an excellent entry point for many players, without forgetting those who are fond of the saga and will want to continue experiencing Geralt’s exploits.”
While there won’t be any substantial information on The Witcher 4 for some time, fans of the original trilogy have yet another thing to look forward to once the new saga kicks off.
