Release notes on The Witcher website give us a more in-depth look at the changes. First up, some updates in this new patch are specific to PC-only. CPU core utilization in the DX 12 version of The Witcher 3 has improved via this patch. Horizon-based ambient occlusion has been restored and players who turned this option off will need to repeat that.

An issue affecting the “My Rewards” sections localization in REDlauncher will no longer bother players. This update has also fixed a bug relating to particle optimization which caused stuttering. Moving on to console-specific changes, Performance Mode has improved on next-gen consoles. Characters becoming blurry during dialogues and cutscenes on PlayStation 5 will no longer be an issue.

A bug related to memory usage for the Ray Tracing Mode was causing crashes on the Xbox Series X version of The Witcher 3. This patch has fixed this bug and quicksaves will now load on Xbox One after using cross-progression.

Moreover, the issue causing the deletion of old game saves when overwriting manual saves on PlayStation 5 is a thing of the past. This patch has also addressed performance issues that happened after loading a game save in Beauclair and Novigrad. Some visual improvements have also come as a part of this Witcher 3 update but only for PC and next-gen consoles. Refraction and ray-traced reflections have been added to SSR to improve the immersion of water appearance.

This patch has also rectified a visual bug with brick textures which resulted in black artifacts covering stone arches. A Motion Blur slider is also present in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt now. You can access this by going to Options, then to Video, and then Graphics. Quest and gameplay have also got some new changes in patch 4.02 and these will apply to all platforms.

The lack of dialogue options during the Battle Preparation quest has been rectified. During Reason of State, an issue permanently locked a door if the player knocked, entered, and left the building but this will not bother you anymore. This patch has fixed a bug causing the Scavenger Hunt: Cat School Gear Upgrade Diagrams Part 1 quest to continue even after looting all the diagrams.

Last but not least, Witcher 3 will not block you from starting standalone expansions if you try to start a New Game+ on an incompatible save. Some bug fixes have also improved localization for the CD Projekt Red RPG. Bugs regarding the Korean localization of Ciri and Geralt’s Gwent cards will not worry players anymore.

The patch has also fixed punctuation issues in the Arabic localization of Witcher 3 and updated the Traditional Chinese font. Some other minor changes are also a part of this update but aren’t a part of these patch notes.
