Story Highlights
- The recent rumor of the Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown team breaking up has caused quite a stir.
- Ubisoft has now spoken up about the incident, addressing the rumor and acknowledging the claim in PR terms.
- The company says it’s keen on creating more Prince of Persia experiences in the future.
In recent times, the rumor of the Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown team getting disbanded internally to shift away from the future of the project has come across as a huge bummer. This is, of course, in light of the quality of the game itself, how it’s such a well-designed Metroidvania platformer that’s just undeserving of such a grim fate.
Speaking to Eurogamer, Ubisoft has confirmed that the Ubisoft Montpellier subteam that was tasked to work on The Lost Crown has been shifted to better accommodate other projects as per their “expertise.” However, the company still looks forward to more Prince of Persia games in the future, so the claim of the Metroidvania in question never getting a sequel is seemingly way off.
I’m extremely proud of our team’s work and passion at Ubisoft Montpellier to create a game that resonated with players and critics alike, and I am confident in its long-term success Most of the team members who worked on Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown have shifted to other projects that will benefit from their expertise. We know players have a love for this brand and Ubisoft is excited to bring more Prince of Persia experiences in the future.”
The earlier report cited a lack of adequate sales to be the reason for the team’s disbanding, though Ubisoft has made no comment on the subject.
Ubisoft Montpellier Has Now Another Dream Project In The Works
In other news, Ubisoft has also confirmed that it’s now looking to revive the legendary Rayman franchise after a lengthy, 11-year-long hiatus releasing no mainline iteration of the series. The fact of the matter is that Ubisoft Montpellier will be taking over the development of the game, and as per reports, it’s been claimed that multiple members of The Lost Crown’s development team have been tasked to work on the next Rayman title.
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown was released on January 18, 2024, for the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. It employs distinct gameplay that’s free of Ubisoft’s usual formulaic worlds, great art direction, and phenomenal music.
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown has completely subverted my initial expectations, providing us with a great game to kickstart 2024 off,” wrote Usama Mehmood in eXputer’s 3.5/5.0 review.
