Naughty Dog sure knows how to make its games, having given rise to the icon that is the Uncharted franchise. What brings me to talk about the series today is its latest rendition in the name of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, which seemingly celebrates its 8th birthday today. That is to say, the title in question came out on May 10, 2016, for the PlayStation 4 initially, sending shockwaves across the planet.
Following the massive success of the game, the suits up high couldn’t let the opportunity go to waste and not port the title to the PlayStation 5 and PC. As such, that happened, and the action-adventure swiftly arrived on the then-next-gen console in January 2022, followed by a PC release several months afterward. However, it did not find itself alone in this escapade.
It was joined by its standalone expansion — Uncharted: The Lost Legacy featuring a female protagonist duo Chloe and Nadine — in remastered format, with Chicago-based developer Iron Galaxy working on the PC version of the bundle, named Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection.
A Quick Look Back At The Uncharted Franchise
Revered as one of the most popular PlayStation exclusives to date, the Uncharted series has long seen success and universal critical acclaim, thanks to the pertinent games nailing the action-adventure aspect like no one else. To talk about Uncharted 4, this one amassed nearly 3 million sales in a week after launching, which is incredible, to say the least.
Fast-forward to 2024, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is one the fastest-selling PlayStation games to exist, clocking in over 15 million copies sold across the board. Those are crazy good numbers, even for a game of this stature.
Uncharted 2 sold over 6m copies on PS3, prior to the release of the Uncharted Collection on PS4.
Naughty Dog's reputation has grown significantly since then and today Uncharted 4 has sold over 16m copies on PS4 and The Last of Us has sold over 20m copies on PS3/PS4. https://t.co/w1OJVe1Af0

As for what’s next for the franchise, rumor has it that a remake of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, which is the very first installment in the series, is in the works. Outside of that, progress appears to have been made for the Uncharted movie’s sequel, with actor Mark Wahlberg offering the update himself. If you’re as excited about that movie as I am, let me know down in the comments section.
