Mark Wahlberg: Uncharted 2’s Script Is Complete, Will Feature Sully’s Mustache

Wahlberg wants to make the sequel better than the first movie.

Story Highlights

  • According to star Mark Wahlberg, a script for Uncharted 2 has been written and the movie is currently in active development.
  • The American actor also unveiled that he will have a mustache for the entirety of the upcoming sequel.
  • Wahlberg also said he wants to make a better movie than the 2022 one, which has a 40% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

While talking to The Direct in a new interview, Uncharted star Mark Wahlberg confirmed that the script for Uncharted 2 is complete and is still being worked on as the sequel undergoes development. While promoting his new film The Family Plan, the American actor who portrays Sully also revealed that he will have the famous mustache of the character throughout Uncharted 2.

“I’ve heard lots of different ideas. I know somebody’s written a script, and they’re still working on it, and it would consist of having the mustache the whole entire time. Which completely makes sense; obviously, in that final scene, I have the mustache.”

Wahlberg’s Sully appears with the mustache in the 2022 film’s mid-credits scene, which ends with a cliffhanger when our main characters are stopped by an unseen figure. The actor told Direct that he took some time to grow facial hair for that scene, saying that the fake mustache felt like a big piece of tape over his mouth and didn’t make him feel so confident.

I spent quite a bit of time growing it because, at one point, we tried to do it with a fake mustache, and, I don’t know. I just don’t have the confidence to pull it off. It just feels like there’s a big piece of tape over my mouth, and I feel ridiculous. I admire actors who can wear wigs and prosthetics and makeup and all that stuff. I’ve successfully worn one prosthetic, but that was long ago.”

Mark Wahlberg further stated that if Sony can make the sequel better than the first movie, he will be open to returning and committing to the project. Even though Uncharted was a huge commercial success, earning over $400 million worldwide on a $120 million budget, it received mixed reviews from critics. The movie only has a 40% approval score on Rotten Tomatoes from critics with its Metacritic score also being an average 45%.

When I finally got the mustache, people really appreciated it. And it was a nice tag to the end of that film. So if we can make it better than the first, you know, I’d be open to it, but I only know as much as you do right now.”
