Court docs emerging from the recent Microsoft case have seemingly further affirmed that the next Xbox console will arrive in 2028. The company executives want to follow the same flexible approach of multiple console versions in the next-gen of consoles in 2028, as stated in a recent report by Axios. The internal chat log from Spring 2022 was part of the Federal Trade Commission’s lawsuit that sought to block Microsoft’s buyout of Activision Blizzard completely. The chat log talked about the next strategy of Microsoft regarding its multiple versions support. The answer appears to be entirely affirmative, as the giant wants to utilize multiple options for the 10th console generation.
“One of the things consoles have been really great at is giving a very clear platform target for developers, and [Game Development Kit] has been really good at this,” said Anuj Gosalia, corporate vice president of immersive experiences. When a non-Xbox executive questioned its future approach for the next-gen consoles in 2028, the corporate vice president of gaming ecosystems, Kevin Gammill, replied:
We have already started this journey with Xbox One and Xbox One X, furthering it in Series S|X. We need to be even more flexible going forward with gen 10, but also provide the ability for creators to take advantage of unique hardware capabilities.”
