Hi-Fi Rush Is Getting Positively Review Bombed On Steam After Studio Closure

Fans haven't taken the news of Tango's shutdown lightly.

Story Highlights

  • Hi-Fi Rush is a rhythm-action game that is played from a third-person perspective.
  • Developed by Tango Gameworks, Hi-Fi Rush has garnered universal acclaim for its high quality.
  • Microsoft has shut down the game’s dev studio, and players have started to show support for it.

Tango Gameworks, the famed creator of the likes of The Evil Within franchise, and the relatively recent Hi-Fi Rush, which is arguably the best Xbox exclusive (at the time) that was released for the Series X, is now being shut down. While this does raise eyebrows as to what the future of creative gaming looks like at Microsoft, Hi-Fi Rush players are currently flocking to send praises to the game’s listing on Steam at present.

Now I admit that this isn’t going to bring Tango back, but at least it’s an effort from the side of the playing community that points fingers at Microsoft’s seemingly ill-founded decision. After all, Hi-Fi Rush did go on to sell over 3 million copies, amassing quite the following to its name, with fans and critics expecting a sequel down the road as well. Fate had other things in mind, however.

Hitting 10,000 Steam reviews in a single month, with the majority of them being outright positive, Hi-Fi Rush succeeded despite zero marketing, and that’s a lot easier said than done in actuality. eXputer’s 4/5 review of the rhythm-action platformer also holds it in high regard, with author Usama remarking,

Hi-Fi Rush is a title that not only manages to make its mark in the genre but also showcases the fact that it is a video game that offers nothing but pure high-octane fun from beginning to end.”

For reference, the title came out on January 25, 2023, for the Xbox Series X|S and PC, which was the same day as the Xbox and Bethesda Developer_Direct. Tango Gameworks came out with the surprise announcement, and then later made it official that Hi-Fi Rush is also releasing today. Surprise surprise.
