Story Highlights
- Red Dead Redemption is a third-person shooter and an open-world icon by Rockstar Games.
- Despite its prequel being on PC, the game is yet to arrive on any PC video game platform.
- An updated PS Store listing, however, gives it away that the game’s coming to PC any day now.
Been waiting long enough for one of your favorite open-world shooters from the West to land on PC? It seems to me that not a lot of time is left to go before this finally happens. The listing of the game on the PlayStation Store now shows an updated description, one where it explicitly states its impending arrival on PC.
Experience the epic western adventures that defined a generation — now on PC for the first time ever.”
Considering the prequel of the game — Red Dead Redemption 2 — was ported to PC a year after its original release, Red Dead Redemption’s arrival has been a long time coming. Now that it’s going to be here any day, expect certain enhancements in the name of improved framerates and even “spatial surround sound” in the PC version. For reference, here’s what the description reads in full,
Featuring the complete single-player experiences of both games, including bonus content from the Game of the Year Edition, Red Dead Redemption features all of the 2023 console version upgrades plus PC specific enhancements including support for increased resolutions and framerates, multiple displays, and other accessories, plus spatial surround sound.”
Red Dead Redemption Remains One Of Gaming’s Greatest Icons
Just over 3 months ago, it was rumored not to expect the Red Dead Redemption PC port soon, with the information coming from a fairly credible source. If the latter is anything to go by, it could mean that the official announcement by Rockstar can be a ways out from now, or perhaps, the developer plans on releasing the title on PC a little later in the year.
In any case, I believe this is veritable proof that the port is, indeed, coming, and I know a lot of fans — myself included — couldn’t be any happier reading the news.
On a side note, cumulative franchise sales have trumped 86 million as of February 2024, signaling immense success for Rockstar. The second game in the series, following Red Dead Revolver in 2004, was also ported to the PS4 and Nintendo Switch in August 2023, but things didn’t flow too well on that front. The release was deemed “lazy” and fans took heavy notice of the technical incapacities, leading to poor gameplay of the game on both consoles.
Here’s hoping Rockstar does a better job this time around with the PC launch of Red Dead Redemption.
