GTA 5 Could Be Leaving Xbox Game Pass Soon

Subscribers all over the world are receiving notifications about GTA 5's potential departure from the platform.

Story Highlights

  • Xbox Game Pass is reportedly sending out notifications about removing GTA 5 on December 31.
  • The game, however, still cannot be seen in the “Leaving Soon” section of the service.
  • Xbox is also putting GTA 5 at a discounted price for Game Pass subscribers.

Reddit user C0d24 reported with a screenshot of a notification from Xbox Game Pass stating that GTA 5 is leaving the platform on December 31, urging the players to enjoy it before it’s gone. The user is an Italian; another Italian user reported the same notification. A Turkish and a USA citizen also corroborated, which means the notification has been sent globally.

However, despite the clear notification, Grand Theft Auto 5 cannot be found in the “Leaving Soon” section on Game Pass, unlike Monster Train and Naraka: Bladepoint which have been confirmed to leave the service on December 31. Despite this, it’s entirely expected for Rockstar’s title to exit Game Pass on the specified date, as it completes its six-month tenure on the service since being added on July 5th of this year.

While six months may seem like a short period, it is still the longest compared to the other two times GTA 5 was added to Microsoft’s platform in 2020 and 2021, both times for only a three-month period. Furthermore, as per the dispersed notification, Xbox is offering GTA 5 at a 20% discount for Game Pass subscribers while it is still on the platform.

Moving forward, the news of departure might come as a disappointment to a huge number of fans who started playing GTA 5 after the recent hype in the franchise with the GTA 6 reveal trailer. Some players have reported that they started playing it just two days or a week ago, leaving them to decide whether to quicken up with their missions or purchase a permanent copy.

Grand Theft Auto 5 was released on September 5, 2013, for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, with a revised version of the title dropping in 2022 for next-gen consoles. The game is one of the biggest in the industry, having earned $1 billion within just 3 days of launch. Publisher Take-Two has recently revealed the updated stats boasting an impressive 190 million units sold globally since launch.

Its successor GTA 6 appears to be on the same road to success with its reveal trailer amassing 117 million views in just two days. While the world awaits its launch, here are the 10 major things we wish to see from the upcoming GTA 6.
