Story Highlights
- Astro Bot is an upcoming platformer for the PS5, serving as the sequel to 2020’s Astro’s Playroom.
- The game looks all set to feature dozens of cameos from a number of different gaming franchises.
- More than 70 character cameos have just been confirmed to appear in Astro Bot.
Astro Bot, the newest iteration in the Astro franchise by Team Asobi, is hitting shelves early next month, but we’ve already come to know a fair bit about what the highly anticipated platformer is going to offer. Just about two days ago, a 15-minute gameplay sequence of the title leaked online, showcasing a development build with multiple levels.
Now, however, a member over at the ResetEra forums, OsirianPortal, has compiled a list with photographic proof of over 70 different cameos featured in the game, and some of these are absolutely wild. Note that we already know that Astro Bot has over 150 cameos, as per a Eurogamer interview with the devs, but this is the first time that we’re seeing just a little below half of these in the flesh.
While you can find the full list over at ResetEra, here are some of the entries that have genuinely made my day:
- Chris Redfield, Claire Redfield, Jill Valentine, and Leon Kennedy from Resident Evil
- Chloe, Elena, Sam, and Sully from Uncharted
- Alucard from Castlevania
- Kazuma Kiryu from Yakuza
- Kazuya Mishima from Tekken
- Knack from Knack
- Octodad from Octodad: Dadliest Catch
- Psycho Mantis, Raiden, and Solid Snake from Metal Gear
- Clicker, Ellie, and Joel from The Last of Us
- Cole from InFamous
- Dante from Devil May Cry
- Cat from Stray
- Chaurli from God of War
It bears mentioning that it’s currently unknown whether these cameos will also be playable in Astro Bot.
Astro Bot’s Cameo Game Is Bigger And Better Than Unlike Anything I’ve Seen
PlayStation’s State of Play in May had one of its major highlights in Astro Bot, which essentially stole the show from other participants, and in case you missed it, Team Asobi has confirmed that the platformer will receive free post-launch DLC. The Astro brand is already a fan-favorite, despite coming out only this generation, and it goes on to show the type of results that can formulate if Sony takes creative risks more often.
