It’s An Exciting Year Ahead For PlayStation Stans

Do make sure to comment down below and talk about your favorite part from the State of Play. Personally, I’m way too excited for the next step in line for Astro’s journey, the adorable PS5 mascot from the tech demo Astro’s Playroom

1. Alien: Rogue Incursion

The State of Play event was generous enough to let players in on their first-ever look at a frightening new game coming for the PS VR2 this holiday. No release date was given, but we did see closely what the gameplay is going to look like in Alien: Rogue Incursion, a brand-new survival horror title that was announced about a month ago

2. Silent Hill 2

I’ll be honest: Silent Hill 2’s initial look was a super bad look. I mean, Bloober showing off a “combat trailer” wasn’t really doing a lot for the game’s original ideology, so people had to be disappointed. Come the State of Play, however, and the devs have totally switched up their game, with Silent Hill 2 now leaning more into the atmosphere of the 2001 original.

Expanding on the various different editions of the game at launch, Mateusz Lenart, Bloober’s Lead Designer said,

The deluxe edition includes various DLCs, such as a digital artbook full of concept art for the town of Silent Hill and its monsters, a digital soundtrack with tracks by Akira Yamaoka, and a Pyramid Head mask made from a pizza box (Note: The digital artbook and soundtrack will be distributed in the form of a bonus application.”

The title comes out this fall on October 8, 2024, for the PlayStation 5. Better mark your calendars.

3. Astro Bot

Moving up, we’ve finally been treated with a new Astro game, officially titled Astro Bot. Following the reception of Astro’s Playroom on the PlayStation 5 as its exclusive “welcome game,” Team Asobi and Japan Studio were easily enticed to look more into this IP, and thankfully, that’s what they’ve done precisely.

Featuring cameos from all over PlayStation’s premier line-up of exclusives, including Kratos from God of Wawr, this fully realized platformer is going to make waves when it makes landfall on September 6, 2024. Oh, and it’s going to have no microtransactions as well. Talk about pure bliss.

4. God Of War Ragnarok

God of War Ragnarok came in axing on November 9, 2022, for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 as a cross-gen exclusive. About 1 and a half years later, the goliath action-adventure RPG has made its way to PC as well, coming to the platform in September right alongside the aforementioned Astro Bot.

This is easily one of the best games you can play right now in 2024, and I’m confident that PC players are going to have a blast towering around the Nine Realms as Kratos.

eXputer reviewed Ragnarok and rated it 4.5/5, calling it “exceptional in almost every single way, whether it’s the bone-chilling soundtrack, heartfelt yet gut-punching storytelling, or the extremely satisfying combat.” And when you’re done with the base game, a surprise in the name of Valhalla awaits you, which is nothing but a love letter to fans of the franchise.

At launch, God of War Ragnarök PC will include all our post-launch updates including a robust New Game+ mode and the God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla DLC,” confirms Sony’s Director of Communications.

5. Concord

After Helldivers 2, another live service shooter seems to be coming to PlayStation 5 and PC, Concord. One could say that they’ve had it with titles of this nature oversaturating the genre, but Helldivers 2 is proof that if your head is in the right place, live service can be exemplary as well. Let’s wait for things to unfold on this front, because Concord’s goes live in the coming months, before the shooter’s imminent release in August.

6. Where Winds Meet

Finally, and this has been one of the most interesting parts about the State of Play promo, Where Winds Meet is a promising new Soulslike that has just been treated to an announcement trailer. Slices of gameplay were shown in between the cinematics as well, so we weren’t left as dry as when Phantom Blade Zero was first kicked out into the open

It’s really the game’s open world that we can’t wait for you to experience. It’s a vast and seamless open world, that will unfold before your eyes revealing breathtaking landscapes. You’ll venture through different regions, rich in historical and cultural features, interacting with diverse local NPCs and reveling in the Wuxia influence,” says Beralt Lyu, the Producer at Everstone Studios.
