UK’s PS5 Sales Rose Over 98% In January Compared To Last Year

The stock issues are almost a thing of the past.

Story Highlights

  • In the United Kingdom, PlayStation 5 sales saw over 98% increase last month compared to 2022’s January.
  • The ascension in PS5 sales has also played a role in boosting its exclusive games to reach higher ranks. For instance, God of War Ragnarok rose to second place in the sales charts.
  • The huge rise in sales can be attributed to the PS5 supply finally flowing more smoothly around the globe. The units are now available in most local retail stores, and most people can purchase them easily without any struggles.
  • The PlayStation 5 has reportedly sold over 32.1 million units worldwide until December.

The prominent industry analyst Christopher Dring and the head of GamesIndustry.biz has revealed a figure in percentage, which showcases the progress of PS5 thus far. The quota provides a better insight into just how many PlayStation 5 units were sold in the United Kingdom last month in contrast to last year’s January.

The PS5 seemingly moved over 98% more units last month in the United Kingdom compared to 2022’s drought in January. The increased sales have also amounted to a boost in sales of next-gen PlayStation games, causing God of War Ragnarok to climb up to the second place in the charts.

The steady inflow of the PlayStation 5 in retail and online stores has only been possible due to a massive enhancement in stocks; the problem was tackled immensely during the second half of 2022. The rise in console inventories around various regions has allowed for more availability and sales, as revealed in the figure.

The supply chain issues were stated to improve in the Asian region last year, as per Jim Ryan. The CEO of Sony apologized for the lack of stock and pledged replenishment in 2023. Jim Ryan has shared similar sentiments for the other regions of the world in the past, noting to do better in resolving the stock issues.

The West and the United Kingdom since appear to have seen large doses of PlayStation 5 flooding the markets, as apparent by the sales charts. For instance, it surpassed Nintendo Switch to become the most-sold console in the United Kingdom last year.

Moreover, the PlayStation 5 was also the best-selling console in the United States last year’s November and largely dominated the competition. The next-gen console’s sales also topped over 2 million in Japan only a few months ago, setting new milestones in the market. Furthermore, its global sales are also paramount in quantity.

Sony recently announced its Q3 2022 financial results, where the conglomerate reported a new record figure for the PlayStation 5. The next-gen consoles reportedly sold over 32.1 million units globally until December 31st, 2022.

A plethora of new gamers are trying Sony’s next-gen console for the first time. As per a recent report, around 30% of PlayStation 5 owners never bought a PlayStation 4. The latest PlayStation 5 has appealed to a broader audience due to its innovative features and enthralling exclusives released in the last few years.

Initially, the PS5 witnessed a weaker start due to a lack of stocks in the pandemic days, but it persevered through the ordeal. The retail shelves are fully loaded with the PlayStation 5 nowadays, and it can be easily purchased in your local markets in most of the prominent regions around the globe.

Sony’s next-gen PlayStation 5 has seen a steady upsurge in sales in various regions during the last few months, which was due to a replenishment in stocks. The rise of PS5 units also has already translated to a triumph first month this year, but the specifics are more shocking than one would think when the results are compared.
