What Remains Of Edith Finch Has No Free Upgrade For PlayStation+

If you are a PlayStation+ subscriber, you can't upgrade the PlayStation 4 version to the PlayStation 5 one.

Next-generation consoles like the PlayStation 5 have brought remarkable improvements to console gaming. However, these new machines have also given players a new headache. Different current-generation games have different rules regarding how you can play them on the new consoles.

Some of them require you to pay an extra $10 fee to upgrade and play on next-generation consoles. Meanwhile, some generous companies offer a free upgrade of their games to the next generation. Hence, all of this is very confusing as players sometimes have to pay extra while other times, it’s of no charge.

Games on PlayStation consoles online through PlayStation+ have even confusing upgrade rules. Many of them don’t offer free upgrades from the PlayStation 4 to the PlayStation 5. As of recent, What Remains of Edith Finch is another game that will not offer PlayStation+ players a free upgrade.

Suppose you play What Remains of Edith Finch on the PlayStation 4 and through PlayStation+, a free upgrade to the PlayStation 5 edition will not be available to you. Only players who buy the game on the PlayStation 4 will be able to upgrade and play it on the next generation. So, PlayStation+ users have really been hard done by PlayStation Studios.

Players are especially angry with the developers and Sony, as the trailer advertises something different. According to that, What Remains of Edith Finch’s PlayStation 5 version will be free for everyone who owns it on the PlayStation 4. However, that is obviously not the case, as players who own it through PlayStation+ can’t claim it.

One other reason players aren’t delighted is because What Remains of Edith Finch isn’t the first game to go through this on PlayStation+. So, it is now a pattern for PlayStation+ versions of games to not get free upgrades to the next generation. If this keeps happening, PlayStation+ Essential won’t be of that much use for players.

Some speculate that it might be an error from Annapurna Interactive or Sony itself, and the game might get a free upgrade on PlayStation+. However, whatever the case, not making a free upgrade for What Remains of Edith Finch’s PlayStation+ version at launch is absurd.
