Story Highlights
- Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 will let you leave your plane and walk around anywhere in the world.
- The sequel is getting a lot of upgrades over the original to achieve parallelism with the real world.
- The title will be smaller in size yet feature a more realistic reimagining of the earth in every way.
In an interview with PC Gamer, the Microsoft Flight Simulator head, Jorge Neumann, clarified that players can do more than fly a plane in the sequel. The game will let you “exit the plane, walk around,” and even allow you to visit your favorite places on foot. Whether you want to sit by a river to watch the sun go down or find that creepy shack in the woods you saw in real life, anything is possible.
You can now exit the plane, walk around, in 2024. You can literally walk your favorite mountain path to your favorite hut in the mountains. Sit on the lake. See the sunset. It is truly a digital twin you can absorb,” says Jorge Neumann.
The sequel features hundreds of species of animals and trillions of trees. Additionally, the players can land on every ship sailing amok in the open seas, as they will be tracked in real-time. The franchise head described the scene as something out of a “first person shooter environment.”
We made every airport look much better. We added every glider airport. We added every oil rig. We added every lighthouse. It feels like whatever comes to your mind you can actually do now, if you embrace the cloud.”
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 Is A Huge Upgrade Over The Original
The technical and gameplay upgrades in the flight simulator are extremely impressive. However, the size of the game will be much smaller than its predecessor. It will be “50 GB or less, but with tons more data,” since most of it will be uploaded to the cloud. The last entry, including all the world upgrades, clocks in at 500 GB—all this while not considering the 5,000 player-created add-ons.

Overall, the reimagining of the world in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is as close to reality as it can get. Jorge revealed that the Asobo Studio has still not talked about many features yet, so many surprises are still waiting for us. The entry will drop on November 19, 2024, for PC and Xbox Series X|S.
