Story Highlights
- As found by gamers on online forums, Sonic Generations has been abruptly delisted from Xbox.
- None of the official sources have come forward with an explanation, leaving many perplexed.
- Some users have theorized that the Xbox 360 marketplace closure may have something to do with it.
The original Sonic Generations has now been abruptly delisted from the Xbox store for no evident reason. It is especially weird because all the other Sonic games that are backwards compatible with Xbox Series consoles are still there. The most likely rationale could just be Sega removing the entry ahead of time before the newer remastered version releases via Sonic X Shadow Generations, as the publisher is known to delete older versions.
If that’s the case, then it might be best for gamers to purchase digital copies before they are removed from other official outlets, like Steam, since we may end up losing access to the OG Sonic Generations that many of us grew up playing as part of our childhood. One ray of hope is that the upcoming bundle may come with the original 2011 version along with the remastered edition.
Could The Xbox 360 Marketplace Closure Have Anything To Do With It
Since there has been no definitive answer for the delisting so far, many gamers are theorizing the exact reason. One of the grim hypotheses suggests that the Xbox 360 Marketplace closure a few hours before this delisting may have anything to do with the game’s removal. While there’s no way to prove that for sure, it has made gamers worried that more entries could be taken down from the Xbox backwards compatible games catalog.

All in all, the entry could be restored in the future, or it may have been taken down intentionally because of the upcoming Sonic X Shadow Generations release. So, it is best to be patient with the delisting since Xbox may come forward with a legitimate reason in the future.
