Verdict

South Park Snow Day did its best to captivate the essence of the famous adult-rated series but felt ineffective regarding its gameplay.

Pros

  • Good narrative.
  • Fun Ability Cards.

Cons

  • Climate Of The Game Seems Desolated.
  • Bad implementation Of Hack-and-Slash Combat.
  • Combat Dynamics Feel Exhausted.

The most anticipated arrival of the beloved, fan-favorite cartoon series South Park has finally come into play. Yet, the most surprising trait the developers have pulled is making the game 3D action-based. My experience as a player was rather amusing; however, veteran players might feel disappointed with the new game design.

Story And Setting

South Park story

South Park Snow Day offers a minute interaction with its story. In fact, the prologue was the only phase where I felt the story element was present.

The game’s narrative is superb, and the dialogue delivery and the voice acting are flawless. The day begins with a raging snowstorm, covering every aspect of South Park in an impenetrable pile of snow. With high expectations, Cartman hopes for the very best thing to happen during this everlasting blizzard: schools must get closed.

The game’s narrative is superb, and the dialogue delivery and the voice acting are flawless.

Your part in the story is to venture out into the snowy neighborhood along with the most iconic faces of the series: Cartsman, Butter, Kenny, and many others. Upon their order, you are to fight the factions of whoever Cartman directs you at. Then, he would probably blame you if anything goes unexpectedly wrong.

You can enjoy the short storyline with your friends (a maximum of 3 can join). If you are to play the game solo, then bots will join your side.

I immensely enjoyed the story because the game accurately captured South Park’s strong narrative and enticing elocution.

The game offers an explorable, interactive, but limited area. Instead, the map is more like a series of stages, which is fun to progress through, given that the Cartman and Butter, as narrators, will make the playthrough much more enticing.

I immensely enjoyed the story because the game accurately captured South Park’s strong narrative and enticing elocution. However, the narrative span is ridiculously brief, which is my only complaint.

Gameplay

New style gameplay

South Park offers the best gameplay experience regardless of the story’s length. The 3D cooperative combat dynamics offer a new tactic to try out in the humorous and goofy-style world of South Park.

The game has a fun card-based level-up system that grows increasingly interesting with time.

The game has a fun card-based level-up system that grows increasingly interesting with time. The majority of the gameplay relies on hack-and-slash combat along with the iconic delivery of one-liners every few moments.

However, my positive attitude about the gameplay could not keep up as I progressed the game thoroughly. What really dampened my experience were its controls. Mashing and button spanning become ideal as you progress through the journey rather than testing your skills and abilities.

Overall, I believe South Park Snow Day could not truly grasp the series’ perspective in its gameplay.

Essence Of The Series Appears Drained In The Game

Game's perspective

Turning into a 3D, havoc-raining gameplay might not be a flawed approach for an innovative game design. However, I find a certain lack of an overall series outlook in almost every aspect of the game.

Considering it is based on the South Park theme, it appears desolated in its characters and gameplay.

Despite how well the dialogue delivery and voice acting are done, I still feel that the character implementation on the most iconic faces is somewhat dull and boring.

The realm of South Park is absurdly filled with rude, abusive, adult-rated, and racially comical activities. Following this, it appears that the game has somehow failed to highlight this notion and offers a straightforward, tedious hack-and-slash combat gameplay.

Moreover, the previous South Park titles used turn-based combat, which aligned well with the series’ ludicrous perspective.

I would say that the game is generally intriguing to experience. Still, considering it is based on the South Park theme, it appears desolated in its characters and gameplay.

Visuals And Performance

Perceiving the game as a 3D world was something I did not expect. But I will admit, it did give a new perspective to the South Park world. However, it did not adopt the series’ attitude as the previous games have done.

Personally, I did not admire the new looks as South Park is intended to captivate its eccentric behavior and whacky atmosphere in cartoonish visuals.

The ambient effects and particles lose their kooky and frantic appearance in the 3D world, and I believe it limits the capability to display frivolous conduct.

To summarize, the visuals are staggering, but the concept is not. The ambient effects and particles lose their kooky and frantic appearance in the 3D world, and I believe it limits the capability to display frivolous conduct.

Regarding the game’s performance, my experience was smooth, even with the maximum visuals. The game loads only the specific area with a limited surrounding to explore and allows you to proceed only when the objective is met.

Verdict

Thoughts on the game
My Verdict – Image by eXputer

South Park Snow Day did its best to captivate the essence of the famous adult-rated series but felt ineffective regarding its gameplay. Stepping out of the 2D world was not a ploy; it made the game appear offbeat in the sequel.

The previous South Park games introduced by Ubisoft truly held the boorish outlook of the series. Even the gameplay, being a turn-based RPG, appeared to be the most relevant and well-suited game design.

Stepping out of the 2D world was not a ploy; it made the game appear offbeat in the sequel.

Overall, I did not consider South Park Snow Day a good addition to the sequel. Rather than being combat-focused, the game should have been more directed to the story and dialogue-based.

That is all I consider for my South Park Snow Day review. Do check out more of our reviews about other games.

I would highly suggest not to. Despite being cost-effective, it does not provide the quality content that other South Park games have exhibited.
