Epic Games Is Launching New “Cabined Accounts” For Kids

The popular market for gamers and developers alike is now introducing a whole new account system for kids.

Epic Games’ new “Cabined Accounts” is specifically designed with younger audiences using the Store or Launcher in mind to ensure a safer experience. The giant company articulates, “If a player indicates they are under 13 or their country’s age of digital consent, whichever is higher, their account will be a Cabined Account and they will be asked to provide a parent or guardian’s email address in order to receive consent to access certain features in Epic’s products.”

The Cabined Accounts will add extra security measures by disabling many prominent features for younger audiences to ensure no troubles befall them on the platform.

Features like contact with other users, purchasing and trading in-game items, and the like will be restricted. Players will be able to view and access game libraries with Cabined Accounts, but buying new games will not be possible.

Moreover, certain Unreal Engine features will become inaccessible for users until the account is reverted. The display name will also change to show a generated one until it is changed after following the procedure.

As per Epic Games’ FAQ page, the following list of features will be disabled for a Cabined Account:

• Communicating with other players using voice chat or free text chat
• Purchasing items with money
• Downloading games that are not owned by Epic
• Recommendations based on past activity
• Email marketing or push notifications
• Trades in Rocket League
• Sign in with Epic, including linking accounts to certain external services, such as social media websites or video streaming applications
• Custom display names
• SMS-based two-factor authentication
