Epic Games Store Finally Introduces “Top Played” Section, And More

More sections get added to the Epic Games Store with an expansion of an existing one

Epic Games is no novice in the gaming industry. They have been involved in various facets of video games for many years. These include not only game development, but also game publishing, and they are also the makers of the video-game engine Unreal Engine, which has been a popular choice for video-game developers for many a year.

They were also the developers of the iconic Gears of War series for Microsoft, but more recently, they made the uber-famous multiplayer game Fortnite, which took the world by storm and continues to be very prominent. This is thanks to Epic always providing tonnes of content for Fortnite players.

After the success of Fortnite, Epic was able to obtain additional funding and launched its own online gaming store dubbed the Epic Games Store. Much like Valve’s Steam, or EA and Ubisoft’s online stores, Epic Games Store offered digital licenses for various video games, in addition to free games for all to claim for certain periods.

However, it did not launch without its fair share of problems. Epic Games Store had many features to include in order to satisfy people who had been accustomed to the wealth of options that Steam offered, the biggest competitor for EGS.

This included a better and stable launcher, better-optimized downloads, a wishlist feature for people to add games to buy later, store stats, and many more. Some of these were added over time but some still remain, but now, we can cross a few features off the list of the ones still missing.

Thanks to keen-eyed ResetEra forums member Ryuichi Naruhodo for this discovery, who spotted that Epic Games Store finally now has “Top Player Reviewed”, “Most Played” and “Top Wishlisted” sections.

The Top Wishlisted section, as the name indicates, shows users the games that are currently on the wishlist of other users. In other words, it indicates and ranks games that are the most wanted by Spic Games Store users.

Top Player Reviewed, as can easily be inferred by the name, ranks games according to their rankings. The top-rated games according to user reviews on the Epic Games Store are arranged in descending order.

Most Played contains games that probably are the most played according to playtime accumulated, but there is no telling how it is calculated as most played games would certainly be the most popular as well, but the section for most popular is separate.

Moreover, the Top Sellers section has also been expanded. It used to show the 50 most selling titles on the Epic Games Store but now the count has been expanded to 100. Previously, strangely enough, the section also had Free to Play games but they have now been removed.

These changes show that Epic is dedicated to the Epic Games Store and is continuously working hard to improve the experience of users and provide them with satisfactory services.

We can only hope that they eventually succeed and make EGS a worthy contender among online stores, but as of its current state, much work yet remains.
