Skull and Bones Has Been Delayed to 2022

Will the wait be worth it?

Skull and Bones is an upcoming free-to-play game that is centered around naval warfare, pirates, and the tales of the sea. It was first announced at E3 2017 and is the first mainline project of Ubisoft Singapore. However, after its first delay to 2019 after being affirmed that the game would release sometime in 2018, the creative director of the ship simulator Elizabeth Pellen explained, “We dreamt something bigger for Skull & Bones, and these ambitions naturally came with bigger challenges,” in a blog post.

However, Ubisoft’s full-year earning reports for 2020 have revealed critical information regarding Skull and Bones among other anticipated games. First reported by Video Games Chronicle, the French developer has laid out the big guns and has confirmed that all these games would release before March 2022, which is when the fiscal year ends. We’re talking about Riders Republic, The Division: Heartland, and Roller Champions, Rainbow Six Quarantine, and Far Cry 6.

In the same report, a swift mention of Skull and Bones has also been spotted. Twitter user Dom has uploaded a part of the announcement on his account where the release date of the game can be seen in the very end.

To be precise, a window has been given for Skull and Bones which falls between 2022 and 2023. The delay has been duly addressed by Chief Financial Officer Frédérick Duguet who said, “We strongly believe in the team’s creative vision and they have been given an increasingly ambitious mandate for the game. Production led by [Ubisoft] Singapore has been advancing well over the past 12 months and the promise is better than ever. The additional time will allow the team to fully deliver on its vision.

Subsequently, Duguet has reassured the Skull and Bones is in good hands. Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag was the first Assassin’s Creed to feature naval combat back in the day, and Ubisoft Singapore is responsible for a significant part of that gameplay.

Now that the game has been delayed but with a definite window this time, let’s hope for all things positive down the road.
