The Last Of Us Online Will Have Doors With A Possible New Stealth Feature

The doors were described as the most the difficult part of The Last of Us Part 2's development.

Story Highlights

  • The inclusion of doors in The Last of Us Online was confirmed by Vinit Agarwal, the co-game director for Naughty Dog’s project.
  • This comes after prior suggestions that point to the exclusion of doors from Naughty Dog’s upcoming project.
  • These suggestions arose when Kurt Margenau, the co-game director for The Last of Us Part 2, described the development of door mechanics and animations as the most grueling task.
  • The doors in the online game might feature stealth gameplay, allowing players to launch sneak attacks on each other.

Contrary to earlier speculations, The Last of Us Online is going to have doors! Sounds quite underwhelming, no? Well, not so if you put yourself in the boots of the developers. Those not savvy about the effort that goes into developing a game can not possibly appreciate the true value of doors in a game.

The inclusion of doors in The Last of Us Online was confirmed by Vinit Agarwal, the co-game director for The Last of Us Online.

He was replying to the tweet of Maksym Zhuravlov, the Lead Animator of The Last of Us Online. In his tweet, Maksim posted a video that showed the alpha build of combat doors in The Last of Us Part 2.

In his tweet, he said that once he finished the animation of combat doors for TLOU Part 2, he thought they would reuse the same basic animation for future projects. But, as he declared, he was wrong.

No matter how uncanny it sounds, according to some reports programming the functionality and animation of doors was the most grueling task that The Last of Us Part 2 developers faced. The first of the game series had doors as well, but the number of doors in The Last of Us Part 2 far exceeded the doors in Part 1

The developers were reportedly so fed up with working on doors that they had seriously considered reducing their number in The Last of Us Online. The internet was furthermore quite sure of this assumption. Some fans were even voicing their disappointment over this.

But these recent tweets by the two most important men part of The Last of Us Online project have rejoiced the fans. Their decision to incorporate doors in the new project was possibly fueled by the amount of positive feedback they received from The Last of Us Part 2.

It is not clear whether they will make some fundamental changes to the working of doors. But, based on Maksym’s tweet, we can still make a wild guess that they might. This could mean the incorporation of stealth gameplay, where players might be able to launch sneak attacks on each other while hiding behind doors.
