Similarly, 37% of the Fortnite user base comprises female video game players, which is over one-third. In addition, exactly 30% of Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0’s players are women as of May 2023, which is higher than the 25% shooting game average. Mat Piscatella also listed the video games in which female players actually accounted for the majority of users.
According to the Circana analyst, nearly 54% of Roblox players are girls/women, which is impressive for a platform that gets over 214 million monthly active users. Furthermore, other immensely popular action/RPG titles, namely Hogwarts Legacy and Pokémon Scarlet/Violet also primarily comprise female users. Piscatella disclosed that 51% of the players in the Warner Bros. fantasy title are women.
Moreover, the newest entry into the Pokémon franchise has a 53% shift in favor of female players. Hence, many of the most popular AAA releases of recent times have a huge number of women as of YTD May 2023. Circana/PlayerPulse’s date also uncovered how Among Us, one of the biggest sleeper hits in recent memory, also has a female majority in its user base, with 56%.
Probably the most popular game among the female demographic is The Sims 4, whose players are 74% women. Other data also supports how much women actually play video games, with Bryter Global saying that 53% of female players globally enjoy action-adventure titles on PC and console. In addition, at least 41% of women play action RPGs, and 45% spend time on simulation/world-building video games like The Sims.
Therefore, women in gaming statistically play every genre, from immersive simulators to good old shooting games like Call of Duty, and comprise a large number of their player bases. As a result, not hiring from the demographic based on outdated takes like “women don’t play action games,” isn’t smart. Hopefully, the industry takes more steps to diversify its hiring procedures to include talented women.
