As the release of Persona 3 Reload etches closer with each full moon, information about the upcoming remake’s retail price has surfaced online. According to Andres Lopez, a SEGA-related survey for the third entry of Atlus’ Persona series revealed the potential price tag to be $69.99. The image also provides some details as to what this modernized experience will provide to the players.
The original tweet was taken down shortly after it was posted but it reached a sizeable audience in the meantime. Its circulation was halted and going by how the image was removed, it can be assumed that Persona 3 Reload may actually have a price tag of $69.99. Although, it’s not set in stone until the announcement is publicly made.
While this news may not surprise many consumers, it does raise some eyebrows among those with different expectations. The trend of publishers pricing AAA games at $70 has been around for some time now. Earlier this year, SEGA also announced that it’s considering raising the price tag for its premium games while keeping an eye on market conditions.
Persona 3 Reload is a full remake of the original game that launched on the PlayStation 2 back in the 2000s. Unlike the recent remaster of the Portable version, Reload will feature modern visuals, revamped combat, expanded Tartarus, and a whole new way to experience the adventures of S.E.E.S. Considering the scale of this overhaul, it may be easy for some to accept this price tag compared to SMT: Nocturne’s $49.99.
Furthermore, Atlus is known for its unusual handling of a product’s content and pricing. Recent examples include the additional content of Soul Hackers 2 which was launched alongside the base game and selling SMT III: Nocturne at a price that players found difficult to justify while having Dante and Raidou Kuzunoha as separate DLCs.
This has led to fans wondering about how Atlus will handle the content of Persona 3 FES and Portable with the upcoming remake. Some players believe that the content from those versions will somehow be sold as a DLC in the future, others feel as if the developer might take a new approach based on the divisive feedback directed at FES’ The Answer.
For now, Atlus has yet to confirm the price or the existence of additional content along with a possible version for the Nintendo Switch but the developer will reveal new information regarding the remake on each full moon till the launch in 2024.
Persona 3 Reload launches in early 2024 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PC, and last-gen consoles.
