Update: The concerned job listing has since been deleted.
The devs known for brewing some of the most compelling VR titles have recently dabbled their hands in creating a multiplayer online co-op entry set in a modern fantasy London. While many particulars are still largely unknown regarding Sony’s major studio, a recent job listing has seemingly confirmed that the project will eventually arrive on PC. The unnamed project announced last year is more or less likely to get a day-one PC release.
As initially spotted by Tech4Gamers, the team hiring for a Senior/Principal Combat Designer seemingly requires the hiree to have “experience [in] delivering large-scale combat features, preferably on PC and Console. Moreover, the employee is also expected to critically contribute to the creation of a “well-balanced roster of heroes,” suggesting that the new Sony project could resemble a hero shooter like Overwatch.
We know the multiplayer project will amalgamate fantasy elements into a modern setting to create a memorable venture; the open vacancy also asks the hiree to have experience in “designing spell casting and melee combat.”
Our new game is close to our hearts, as the whole team collaborated on coming up with the concept from the very beginning. We’ve seen this idea grow from a seed, and now we’re looking for new starters to continue our journey on shaping our plans for this AAA project,” mentions the new listing.
The job listing also lists that it’s a AAA title, which was previously unconfirmed in the official announcement of the game last year. Regardless, the ads from the early last year did mention a AAA next-gen multiplayer fantasy IP in development for the PlayStation 5 by the same studio. The connection between the previous vacancies and the recent one discussed above further confirms it’s the same game by Sony’s PlayStation London Studio.
We have not heard any new official details since the official reveal, although the job listings have helped us gain more insight into the project. For instance, previous vacancies stated that the game is filled with “diverse and compelling characters, locations and events.” The other details mention a campaign, side quests and missions, and the live service approach, “which sets up years of ongoing story.”
Sony’s PlayStation London Studio also sang praises for the unnamed project to shed more light on it in an interview, calling it the studio’s “most ambitious title to date.” It is being designed to “take full advantage of the PlayStation 5” It is a subtle hint that it may release before the next generation of consoles arrives, likely in two or three years.
All in all, it is best to take the rumors of a day-one PC release with a pinch of salt despite being mentioned officially in the open vacancy. We will likely not hear more particulars until a few years, as the new Sony game in the skeletal stages may go through many changes.
