Sony is seemingly in talks with AMD to power the PlayStation 6 with the tech, as clarified by the notable YouTuber RedGaming Tech. The YouTuber clarifies that the publisher is aiming for a 2028 release date. However, that’s not all; the PS6 is targeted to be the strongest console of the next generation and will likely drop after the new Xbox console.

The PlayStation 6 has been in the works for nearly a year, per the YouTuber. A slew of specs also remain to be finalized yet, such as the CPU and RAM. Sony has not reached out to Nvidia or another vendor for the PS6 this time around, which is quite different than how things went with the current-gen console. Red also mentions that the console will heavily feature ray tracing and some level of path tracing, along with machine learning and AI.

The advancements in tech will help achieve realistic interactions with NPCs, among other uses. The video also explores the current situation of the PlayStation 5 Pro model. As per Red, the dev kits for the mid-gen upgrade have already been rolled out to unnamed third-party studios for testing. While this does not confirm the arrival of the PS5 Pros yet, the distribution of dev kits shows that Sony may go ahead with the launch later this year.

All in all, we suggest taking these rumors with a huge grain of salt. Even if these leaks are to be trusted, many years remain before the PlayStation 6 launches. So, plans could change in the future. Similarly, Sony may decide to ditch the mid-gen refresh later.
