Images of the rumored PS5 Slim allegedly leaked online, having been posted to a Chinese forum. The console, codenamed CFI-2016 has been rumored to be in development for years. X/Twitter User Andre Marmo @themarmolade reposted the image on X, revealing what appears to be a slender, thinner version of the Playstation 5.

Some details of the console have allegedly leaked in the past few days. @BwE_Dev, a PlayStation developer claims to have seen a video of the console, and noted that it is roughly 5 cm shorter than the standard PS5 but not slimmer, with a “weird curve” in the middle with smaller vents. The console may also have two USB-C ports on the front.

BwE later claims to have seen a video of the PS5 Slim and confirms that it is the same console that he saw, a claim that is backed up by Andrew Marmo.

This matches up with previous leaks and rumors of the PS5 Slim, which is not so much a “Slim” version of the PS5 but a more powerful mid-cycle refresh with a different form factor. Think of the Xbox One X or the PS4 Pro. According to gaming insider Tom Henderson last month, the “PS5 Slim” is not “slim” at all, and could be revealed sometime in September.
I've only seen prototypes. I don't think it will be "slim" at all. Just slightly different dimensions but we'll see

According to previous leaks, the PS5 refresh will have a detachable disk drive. The console, or at least prototype versions have been in the hands of developers for some time now. The console will allegedly have 60 compute units, 24 more than the standard PS5 and 4 more than the Xbox Series X, and may have 18,000 MT/s of memory, 4000 more than the PS5.
According to court documents from the pending acquisition of Activision-Blizzard by Microsoft, Microsoft believes that a PS5 Slim would be released sometime in 2023, with a PS5 Pro released sometime afterwards. Microsoft also expects a new generation of consoles to be released in 2028, so a PS5 refresh could keep things fresh until then.
