Armored Core 6: A Major Success In Japan, Over 700,000 Units Sold

Past titles, including Elden Ring, have kept up their momentum.

Story Highlights

  • Armored Core 6 is a major hit in Japan, selling over 700,000 units in the country. This increased sales in Q2 of the company’s current fiscal year.
  • Kadokawa expects the game’s global sales to grow in the future.
  • The financial report also mentions the parent company’s intentions to expand the scope of FromSoftware’s publishing scope.

According to Kadokawa Group’s Q2 Financial Report, Armored Core 6 sold over 700,000 units in Japan, making it a major success overall. Going over the progress of FromSoftware‘s latest project, the company expects global sales of the game to grow moving forward.

The report further states that sales declined on a year-to-date basis from the previous annum when Elden Ring massively contributed to the numbers. The increase in Q2, however, has been attributed to the strong start of AC6: Fires of Rubicon. Additionally, repeat sales of past titles, including FromSoftware’s magnum opus, remained solid.

Fires of Rubicon made landfall on current and last-gen platforms after a decade-long hiatus during which the studio learned from and mastered its “souls” formula. Despite being a flagship series of FromSoftware, cementing its development skills, the mecha franchise never broke into the mainstream and was met with poor critical reception.

Due to the studio’s work on the Souls series, Bloodborne, and Elden Ring, AC6 received a lot more attention from all three sides of the arena. This introduced the mecha franchise to a hitherto unforeseen number of players, shining more light on it. Just two weeks after its release, the game managed to surpass over a million copies on Steam alone, even becoming the highest-rated AC title to date.

Aside from its success, the financial report also mentions Kadokawa’s intentions to expand FromSoftware’s scope of publishing. For the uninitiated, the studio has partnered with several publishers over the years for its games released outside of Japan. Domestically, however, it’s known for self-publishing its titles for the most part.

While some people may be speculating that FromSoftware will transition to global in-house publishing without any external parties involved, the report doesn’t state anything specific. Therefore, we advise you to refrain from jumping the gun.

Armored Core 6 launched on August 25, 2023, for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and last-gen consoles. Read our review to figure out why we deemed it the greatest mech game of all time.
