EA’s “Neon Fox” Trademark Hints At New IP Or Studio Announcement

We may hear something at the upcoming TGA event.

Story Highlights

  • As spotted by the insider Kurakasis on Twitter, EA has filed a trademark to secure “Neon Fox.”
  • The trademark was filed for multiple categories, leaving it up to fans to speculate what it could be.
  • It’s likely to be a studio because similar events have happened in the past with EA’s Cliffhanger Games.

EA has recently filed for a new trademark to secure the words “Neon Fox” under its domain, as detailed on the Justia Trademarks site. Initially spotted by the leaker Kurakasis, the trademark was filed on December 1, 2023, and falls under several categories. One category includes computer game software and online entertainment, which has made others speculate that it is an upcoming new IP by the conglomerate.

However, the Neon Fox trademark by EA is also added under video game development services, which implies that another subsidiary game studio under the company could be revealed in the near future. The insider thinks that the trademark refers to a new studio because EA studio trademarks are filed with “IC 042: Design and development of interactive, computer, video…,” which is apparently different from games.

Another piece of evidence supports the latter because similar events have transpired in the past before the creation of Cliffhanger Games. EA had registered another trademark with Neon called Neon Black Studios two years ago. The studio is now developing the title based on Marvel’s Black Panther.

The studio’s name wasn’t revealed until 2023 when it became Cliffhanger Games, and it was disclosed that they are working on a game based on Marvel’s Black Panther. The Neon Black Studios trademark was abandoned in 2022, one year before EA announced the name for Kevin Stephens’ studio. This could lead to speculation about whether Cliffhanger Games was initially planned to be called Neon Black Studios,” mentioned the insider in his tweet.

However, both trademarks are not necessarily related to each other, and no other evidence connects the two. We can expect EA to take the stage at the upcoming The Game Awards 2023 event and announce either a new franchise or the creation of a new studio altogether. We suggest taking the rumors with a huge pinch of salt since, at the end of the day, the trademark could be neither of the two rumored choices.
