Anthem is one of the most anticipated games that we have seen at E3 2018 and there is a lot of hype around the game for sure. We are getting new information regarding the game with each passing day. Devs have been trying to communicate their vision for the game as well as the features that Anthem will have to offer.
In a recent Reddit post, one of the fans asked about chat features in Anthem. The following was his question regarding the matter:
Will PC have global chat, zone chat, party chat, and guild chat like WoW? If not, they should look into it. Chat builds an amazing sense of community and that you’re not alone. Imagine dropping into an area and just asking to team up via chat. Exactly like in WoW 10 years ago…
If you have played Destiny 2 then you will have noticed the lack of this feature and how annoying it can be when you need to find people to join you for the raid. There will be people right in front of you that might be willing to join you but you can’t communicate with them properly. Multiplayer games need to have proper communication.
While applications like Discord have made things a bit easier, nothing is better than the actual in-game chat. Plus you can’t talk to the people in the open world using discord. That has to be an in-game feature. The following is what BrenonHolmes, BioWare’s Creative Director had to say in reply to this question:
The main challenge is that there are a bunch of additional accessibility options that we are required to implement. This increases the cost of these sorts of features. As an example, I’m pretty sure one of the things we need to support is TTS for any in-game text-based chat. This sort of thing, unfortunately, complicates what might normally be an easier feature… Right now we’re still figuring out what is feasible to do.
While I appreciate that the devs are being open regarding Anthem and are not hesitant in communicating about the game, this statement is not too reassuring and I am sure that there other other people out there, that have concerns. Just like I do.
