Fans of the Fallout franchise are going to be eating well. Nexus modders PJ Hexer and Co have now recreated the canceled Fallout 3 project, codenamed Van Buren, using the highly sophisticated Fallout 2 engine. Dubbed Fallout Yesterday, it is a complete fan-made implementation of the entry that was canceled in the early alpha stages. So, you can enjoy a reimagined experience that aligns best with what the devs would have developed.

Fallout Yesterday is a fan-made implementation of the original, canceled Fallout 3 by Black Isle Studios, code-named Van Buren, inside Fallout 2 engine. The game offers multiple races, hundreds of new Traits and Perks, items, weapons, gameplay additions, dozens of new locations, 7 different vehicles, new companions,” reads the Nexus page.

Although the mod is completely playable, you can only finish the main story with a specific character build that is focused on “Science and Repairs.” In the future, more build paths will likely be added for the fans to take.

The Canceled Fallout Game Now Resembles A Complete Project

The latest version 0.6 of the mod brings even more goodies to the table, including over 30 new quests in Hoover Dam and Maxson Bunker, better party management, free-roaming caravans, reworked special encounters, and the like. There are also over 100 new items and weapons to enjoy, along with over 100 new traits and perks. More story content, music tracks, items, and overall features will also be introduced in the future.

It’s worth clarifying that the mod is completely free to download and can be grabbed from here. Additionally, the project has gone open source on GitLab in case someone wants to join hands with the modders to work and contribute to it.
