Red Dead Redemption 2 Rolls Over More Than 67 Million Units To Date

Rockstar's strikes gold with its Wild West-centric franchise.

Story Highlights

  • Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the best open-world titles in the business right now.
  • The game, despite coming out over 5 years ago, still holds up without a next-gen patch on consoles.
  • Rockstar reports that the game has rolled over north of 67 million units to date, a massive feat.

Take-Two Interactive, an industry giant and the owner of the Grand Theft Auto IP, has confirmed in its Q2 Fiscal Year 2025 Conference Call that Red Dead Redemption has sold more than 67 million copies over the course of its release. Note that these are not cumulative franchise sales, which dangle somewhere in the neighborhood of the 100-million mark.

Red Dead Redemption 2 posted another fantastic quarter. The title has sold-in more than 67 million units to-date and, six years after its release, still ranks in the top ten for unit sales globally, according to GSD. Rockstar Games was pleased to expand its audience further with the successful launch of Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare for PC on October 29th,” confirms the Rockstar owner.

Red Dead Redemption has always remained a flagship Rockstar franchise, continued with a further iteration that shook up the industry in the same vein as its predecessor on release. eXputer reviewed the sequel, rating it 4.5/5.0, with author Obaid ur Rehman remarking,

Even after five years, Red Dead Redemption 2 stands at the top next to new AAA titles, so it is still not too late to experience its greatness.”

Moreover, Rockstar was also able to push out a PC port for the first Red Dead Redemption last week following an official announcement in October. The game arrived on PC bundled with the Undead Nightmare DLC as well. The latter is a “zombie-horror companion story” and a unique take on the Red Dead universe.

Not anytime soon, quite likely. Rockstar Games is seemingly diving headfirst into the prospects of GTA 6 at the moment, so it’s improbable that the developer is simultaneously also focusing on a project as grand as the next iteration in the Red Dead Redemption series. With that said, it’s unlikely that the developer will not follow up on the series sometime in the near future

There have been some rumblings in the past, confirming that Red Dead 3 is on its way, but nothing official seems to surface as of yet. Do let us know what you think about the franchise’s mega success in the comments ahead.
