Story Highlights
- Final Fantasy 7 Revelation’s base game will “definitely” conclude the remake trilogy.
- Any potential DLC would explore a spin-off story rather than extend the main ending.
- FF7 may receive a spin-off DLC based on fan demand.
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will conclude the remake trilogy within its base game, with director Naoki Hamaguchi confirming that players will not need DLC to see the story’s ending.
After years of theories surrounding the trilogy’s increasingly unpredictable storyline, comments from Hamaguchi confirm that the final game will deliver a complete conclusion without asking players to purchase another chapter afterward.
The story will be concluded within the main game. We’re serious about concluding the series with FFVII Revelation, and we’re proceeding with development with that goal in mind.
Any Final Fantasy 7 Revelation DLC Would Be A Spin-Off

Hamaguchi did not completely rule out downloadable content. However, he clarified that any expansion would be a spin-off rather than a continuation required to understand the trilogy’s ending.
If we were to hypothetically release any DLC, we would likely want to create a kind of spin-off focused on a specific character that depicts their untold stories, kind of like what we did with Yuffie with FF7R EPISODE INTERmission, and I think there is demand for it among fans. So, in case we do end up considering making a DLC, this is the kind of thing that we’d likely attempt to do.
The director also acknowledged the immense expectations surrounding Revelation, particularly as Square Enix attempts to conclude a story that now needs to satisfy fans of the 1997 original and players invested in the remake trilogy’s new mysteries.
That is no small task. Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth have expanded characters, rearranged major events, and introduced enough uncertainty to keep theory channels busy for years. Revelation must now bring those threads together without making its conclusion feel rushed or dependent on an expansion arriving months later.
Hamaguchi’s comments should therefore reassure anyone concerned about the main story being divided across the base game and post-launch content. If DLC eventually happens, it could instead give Square Enix room to explore another character or event without compromising the core ending.
Revelation DLC Will Depend On Fan Demand

Hamaguchi also talked about the chances of Revelation getting a DLC and stated it will depend on fan demand.
things haven’t crystallized yet, so we can’t certainly say “Okay, we’re going to make DLC for FFVII Revelation.” However, if we get the support from fans, and if there’s genuine demand for it, I think we’d want to consider it.
Revelation will end the trilogy on its own. Potential DLC remains an option, but it would tell a separate story rather than hold back essential scenes from the main campaign.
Considering how long fans have waited to see Square Enix’s reimagined journey reach its conclusion, that is exactly the clarification the final installment needed.
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will arrive in 2027.
