Aspyr has a long history of porting and remastering old Star Wars games. They have ported classic Star Wars games such as Knights of the Old Republic, Jedi Knight, and Republic Commando to modern platforms. Back in September, it was announced they are developing a remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic for the PS5. Many Aspyr ports end up on Nintendo Switch as well as mobile devices.
Recently, in a Twitter thread, user @SDSchumacher13 asked Aspyr about the possibility of a modern port of the classic Star Wars: Rogue Squadron games, to which Aspyr responded by saying that they would consider a modern port if consumer demand was there.
Here at Aspyr we're huge Star Wars fans and love bringing Star Wars games to new audiences. For us, it’s all about the games we think players are most passionate about and would love to see brought to new platforms. If the demand is there, we’re on board

Rogue Squadron Is a starfighter-based game where players pilot a variety of Star Wars vehicles. The game would take you through many classic Star Wars moments from the original films. The Rogue Squadron games were a staple of the N64 and Gamecube Eras. Star Wars: Rogue Squadron was released in 1998 for the N64 and PC. LucasArts would later release Rogue Squadron II: Rogue leader in 2001 and Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike in 2003, both for the Nintendo GameCube. All Rogue Squadron games were developed by Factor 5. The studio shut down in 2009 but was revived in 2017. Julian Eggebrecht, who was the Director of the Rogue Squadron games, further provided his input on the topic.
The one for Switch should be the ultimate Rogue: https://t.co/jArtYL1HVF Using every last bit of the Wii, all controllers from Pro to wheel, all levels from Leader & Strike in one as intended, fixed & remixed. Multi-player. 1:1 gyro lightsaber combat. 60 FPS. Our ode to Star Wars

Glad you enjoyed our games – we loved making them for all Star Wars fans out there! To round this off, it should include a remastered Rogue Squadron N64/PC with the high detail ship models from the Wii, and updated textures & shaders. The Force would be strong with that one.

In 2020, EA and Motive Studios released Star Wars: Squadrons, a spiritual successor of the Rogue Squadron and Tie Fighter games. The Game was the first Starfighter-focused game since 2003’s Rogue Squadron III. A Rogue Squadron film is planned to release in 2023. Directed by Patty Jenkins, the film will take inspiration from the Rogue Squadron games and books. The film was announced in 2020 with a release date of December 22, 2023.
As EA’s exclusivity license on Star Wars games expires next year many studios are jumping on the chance to develop a Star Wars game. At least 7 AAA Star Wars titles are in development at EA, Ubisoft, Aspyr, Quantic Dream, and more. Aspyr’s history of developing and porting Star Wars games would make them the perfect candidate to port Rogue Squadron to modern consoles. Hopefully, there’s consumer demand to bring all of this together in the future.
