We all know how important exclusivity is in the current era of gaming. It’s present on every platform from consoles to PCs and really dictates a lot of player decisions. Sony has been making the best out of their exclusive games on PlayStation but Microsoft is now catching up too.
Xbox has a lot of amazing exclusive games coming to the platform in the coming year from different studios. Players are really excited to play hyped games like Fable 4 and Redfall. But there is also another game we know only a bit about in the form of Contraband.
Avalanche Studios are making this game with Xbox Game Studios and it got a reveal at last year’s Xbox Games Showcase. We only know a little about Contraband and all of that is from the reveal trailer. Players don’t even know who’s IP this actually is but a new trademark puts that doubt to bed.
Microsoft has officially trademarked Contraband in a brand new filing. The company filed an application for this trademark just recently on June 6, 2022, and it’s now official. It now owns everything related to the game from software to the title itself.
Now that Contraband is officially a Microsoft trademark, the confusion of ownership finally comes to an end. When the game got its reveal last year nobody could tell if this was an Avalanche IP or a Microsoft one. Both of the studios presented the game as a partnership but did not make anything clear about who owns it.
However, this trademark confirms that Microsoft owns Contraband and that it is their IP. Seeing the company obtain the rights to this exciting title is really nice. Microsoft needs to build its exclusive games portfolio and something with Contrabands potential will help.
A lot of hype is present around the game and when you know the premise it’s not hard to see why. Contraband is a heist game that takes place in the fictional Southeast Asian region of Bayan. It is set in the 1970s and you will play the game as smugglers surviving in this world.
The game is a co-op and is also going to be an open-world adventure. Not much else is known about this game and all the info we have is from the reveal trailer. Microsoft owning this IP does have us excited about the future and hopefully, we hear more news about it soon.
