Yet Another “Showcase” Season Gone By, But Silksong Still Remains A Pipe Dream

I’m afraid it’s that time of the year again, me crying uncontrollably over no Silksong. How long has it been since the game was revealed? I’ve long forgotten. All I know is that it continues to elude me, much to my immense grief.

The phantom existence in the gaming industry continues to live up to its name. Every time a showcase or an event with the most slimmest of the possibility of Silksong appearing arrives, I rush to grab every tank of hopium I can find, and sit down in anticipation, only to be immensely disappointed. And it’s with a heavy heart that I say “Here we go again.”

“E3” Season Gone, I’m Still Silksong-Less

As you know, it’s the happy season for gamers all around. The scorching heat of the summer can’t match fans’ blazing excitement for all the mindblowing reveals, and the skies echo with the painful screams of all the wallets around the world. 

It used to be the massive E3 before, but after the unfortunate cancellation, the Summer Game Fest and companies taking matters into their own hands replaced it. The name has changed but the spirit is intact. And while everyone celebrates, it’s a time of excruciating torture for us Silksong fans. After all, there’s a new showcase, and a fresh dose of pain every day.

E3: After more than two decades of E3, each one bigger than the last, the time has come to say goodbye. Thanks for the memories.

First, it was Summer Game Fest, but no Silksong. Next, the Xbox showcase and you guessed it, no Silksong. Finally, the one on which all hope rested, the legendary Nintendo Direct came along, and yes, you’re three for three, no Silksong once again. Would someone please put me out of my misery already? (My way of crying for help).

Alas, my fellow Silksong awaiters, there’s no respite for us. It seems our endless wait still continues.

Was Silksong Just A Myth?

After reading my pleas for help, you must be wondering “What the hell is wrong with Silksong? torturing these poor souls like this.” To this, my friend, I answer that I don’t know either. Besides, what is Silksong? Is it even real? Or was it just a figment of my vivid imagination all along?

After Team Cherry’s majestic Metroidvania Hollow Knight blew us all away, the DLC reveal was a sweet nectar unlike anything else. The gift just kept giving when it was transformed into a full-blown game, one featuring the fan-favorite Hornet as the protagonist. What excited me of the past didn’t know was that I would be signing my trip to the Asylum by riding this hype train.

Now that I think about it, it wasn’t just me imagining things. We got a proper trailer, gameplay elements were showcased, and there was even a hands-on preview of the game available once. What happened after that? It’s like the game vanished off the face of the earth. We were told the game’s scope grew exponentially and thus more development time would be required. But why the utter silence?

Still, I refuse to give up hope. I’ll grasp at straws at this point, a sliver of a possibility. Countless of those appeared over the years, and now we’ve got another. A playtester for the game insists the game is not in development hell, and still very real. The growing scope of the project requires more time, that’s all.

Any Second Now, Team Cherry

Now, putting all the craze aside, let’s think about it rationally for a bit. While I certainly appreciate Team Cherry giving their all and making Silksong worth the wait, my question is why not come clean about it and communicate to the fans dying to hear your voice?

If there’s one thing Silksong fans are, it’s patient. Even more so if they know for sure that the game is coming, it just needs some time. Team Cherry’s neglect of communication is taking a serious toll on its fanbase. Knowing about something gives you a certain relief. When you’re questioning its existence and your sanity, the wait becomes an endless torture session.

Thus, I believe Team Cherry must prepare an official announcement regarding Silksong’s non-existence. Let the fans know that it’s not a fantasy, the project is alive and well, growing in scope and trying to meet your expectations. It will take some time, but we’ll try to keep you updated on its progress and development.

This is all I want. Is that too much to ask after all my patience?
