Minthara is one of the strongest companions in BG3 that you can add to your team. You can recruit Minthara without betraying the Grove in Baldur’s Gate 3. By making some different choices, you can add her to the team without killing the Druids or Tieflings, avoiding a huge-scale massacre.
- Minthara can be recruited without betraying the Emerald Grove in Baldur’s Gate 3.
- Ensure you toggle non-lethal action before taking her down in the Emerald Grove Batlle in Baldur’s Gate 3.
- You must save her from the prison and escort her out of Moonrise to add her to your team.
First Encounter With Minthara
To recruit Nightwarden Minthara, you must first head to Goblin Camp to talk to her; she can be found inside the Shattered Sanctum. You might want to get on the good side of the goblins for a while to get easy access to her. I have displayed her location on the map below,
Once you reach the spot and interact with her, a conversation will start with Minthara. She will ask you to help her find the Grove and take her side; here, you can lead her to the Grove without many consequences. However, you are still not required to betray the Grove if you just side with the Tieflings during the combat.
The Battle For The Grove
Minthara will ready her troop goblins and will ask you to side with her during combat.
- If you blow the horn ready to begin the showdown between the Goblins and Grove.
- Her troops will march forward to the Grove
- Minthara will once again ask you to obey her
- If you disobey, you recruit Minthara to your team without betraying the Grove or destroying it in Baldur’s Gate 3.
Now, you will be fighting for the Tieflings and Druids in the Grove and tasked to take down Minthara and the Goblin forces. However, you are not necessarily required to kill off Minthara, as this will make Minthara available to recruit in your party even without betraying Grove.
To not kill Minthara, select a non-lethal action from the moves wheel first. Toggling the non-lethal action allows you to take down enemies without killing them, so they can still play a part in the Baldur’s Gate 3 plot even if you knock them out.
Recruiting Minthara
Now, for the final step, you can find Minthara once again in the Moonrise. She is getting belittled by her superiors for failing in her tasks; here, you can choose to side with her. However, she will be taken to the Moonrise prisons found below.
Here, you can recruit her to the party by helping her break out of prison. A quest will appear titled “Decide Minthara’s Fate.” After reaching the quest location shown on the map, you will find Minthara receiving her punishment.
Once you reach her, you can take over Minthara’s punishment from the two guards, convincing them that you will break Minthara’s mind. They will leave the task to you, and then you can ask Minthara to pretend like her mind is broken and lead her out of the prison. Minthara will thank you and join your party.
My Thoughts
Minthara is one of the strongest allies to recruit; she is a force to be reckoned with during the Emerald Grove battle. I suggest you have her on your team as an ally who was once a formidable adversary. I really like Minthara’s personality, and she is definitely one of my favorite characters. Minthara has some interesting moments while you interact with her at the camp.
If you choose the Dark Urge route, you may find destroying the Emerald Grove alongside Minthara to get her more entertaining to the plot. Still, I think that getting Minthara without attacking the Emerald Grove and not killing the Tieflings and Druids is worth it in Baldur’s Gate 3, as you won’t lose Karlach or Wyll as companions.
Before you go, I suggest reading up on Baldur’s Gate 3 review to get more details about the entry or if it’s worth your time trying it out.
