Dying Light puts you into a city called Harran, where you will need to fight both zombies and humans to achieve your goal. The game allows players to choose from a wide range of different weapons. However, not all of them can help you out in critical situations. Therefore today, to help you select the best weapon in Dying Light, we are going to mention a couple of them and explain why they are better than others.
- There are plenty of amazing weapons to choose from while taking down all sorts of enemies in Dying Light.
- The first weapon in Dying Light is the God Hammer, resembling the Mjolnir that “Thor” wields.
- The second weapon is the German 9mm Pistol. Considering the fact that Dying Light revolves around melee weapons, this weapon’s damage is unique.
- The third weapon is the Crossbow, another great choice for ranged weapons and it’s available in the “The Following” DLC.
- The fourth weapon is the Helluva Homerun Baseball Bat and it’s available only in “The Following” DLC.
- The fifth weapon is the Angel Sword, it’s a long sword that can slice enemies in half making it arguably strong.
- The sixth weapon is Fenris Axe which is slow in speed but its damage output makes up for it.
- The seventh weapon is Police Rifle, if you are tired of winning melee weapons and want an auto rifle, this gun is the best pick
- The eighth weapon is Semi-auto Shotgun, perfect for players who want to one-shot enemies in close range.
- The ninth weapon is EXPcalibur which is really powerful because it’s based on the mythical weapon, Excalibur.
- The tenth weapon is Sledgehammer. Being a heavy weapon, it can easily take down multiple enemies a once at a cost of more stamina.
- The eleventh weapon is the Toxic Reaper Machete. It’s an agile weapon that deals decent damage making it an ideal choice early game.
- The final weapon is the Katana. It’s basically like heavy weapons where it can eliminate a crowd of enemies at once but it isn’t slow like heavy weapons, making it overpowered.

Best Dying Light Weapons
Keep in mind that we are going to mention those weapons that we think are amazing in Dying Light. You might find some other weapons better than these ones and that is totally okay.
God Hammer
Hammers are easily some of the best weapons to use in Dying Light. This is because first, they’re not that difficult to get. Second, what some players don’t realize is that they are faster than most of the other weapons present in the game. This is something that will help you take down zombies quickly and easily. But the regular hammer won’t be able to help you clear a plethora of zombies quickly. For this purpose, we will suggest the God Hammer.

The God Hammer can help you become Thor from the Avengers. By only taking a look at it, you’ll be able to tell that this weapon can destroy even the toughest of opponents. However, the God Hammer isn’t something that you can find as regular loot or as a reward for completing a mission. Instead, you’ll need to get the God Hammer Blueprint and then create the weapon yourself. The Blueprint can be found during the Chasing Past side quest. During the mission, you’ll enter a workshop inside an apartment and the Blueprint will be waiting for you to pick it up at a workbench. You’ll then
- 2x Strings
- 2x Batteries
- 2x Power Cables
- 2x Metal Parts
- 2x Aerosol
- 1x Electronic Parts
You can then combine these parts with a Two-Handed Hammer or a Small Hammer to create the God Hammer in Dying Light.
German 9mm Pistol
Next up, we have the German 9mm Pistol. Firearms are the most useful weapons in Dying Light as they can help you take your enemy down from a safe distance (that is if you know how to aim properly.) As for the German 9mm Pistol, it’s simply amazing. The weapon offers a 95 accuracy, meaning that you’ll be able to land most of your shots accurately. The only downside that I see about the weapon is its low rate of fire, which is 30.

What some of you don’t know is that you already saw the German 9mm Pistol at the start of the game when the protagonist arrived in Harran city. However, he had to get rid of it because of some reason, so you’ll need to find it again. Thankfully, it is not that difficult to get considering you can find it in most of the Police Vans scattered throughout the cities. There is another method of getting that weapon which involves visiting a house in the Slums and picking up the pistol from the feet of a guy who committed suicide through it. Sounds disturbing right? Well, on the bright side, you’re getting a free weapon.
Crossbow
The Crossbow is yet another weapon on our list that can help you take down zombies from far away. Instead of getting close to the target like how you would normally do with a melee weapon, you can stay behind and land accurate headshots to perform a one-hit takedown. The thing which some players don’t like about the Crossbow its damage output isn’t that great, except for headshots. However, considering it’s silent and can help you bag in kills without notifying the enemies in the surrounding area, it’s pretty useful. Read our Article on Dying Light Bows.

One thing to keep in mind is that the Crossbow is not available in the normal version of the game. You will need The Following expansion pack in order to get your hands on it. The crossbow is located in an orange train car right next to Jasir’s Farm. After you have located the train, you’ll need to make your way inside it where you’ll be able to pick up the Crossbow. The best part is that you’ll also find a couple of bolts and a Blueprint right next to the Crossbow. This Blueprint will help you transform it into a deadlier weapon.
Helluva Homerun Baseball Bat
The Baseball Bat is a weapon that almost every Dying Light player has or will use at least once. This is mainly because it is the first weapon that you’ll get in the game. When you arrive in the city and visit the Quartermaster for the first time, he’ll provide you with the Baseball Bat, and that too for free. But all of this does not mean that the Baseball Bat is a weak weapon or does not has the potential to become the best weapon in Dying Light.

For those interested, we will suggest you get your hands on the Helluva Homerun Baseball Bat if you’re serious about using the Baseball to conquer the world of Dying Light. The Blueprint for this weapon is available for only those who have The Following expansion pack. You will need to visit the Hydro Dam Building in the Countryside and then make your way to a room that has a metal chest inside it. This metal chest will provide you with the Helluva Homerun Blueprint and you’ll need the following parts to craft it:
- 1x String
- 1x Metal Parts
- 2X Gauze
- 1x Household Supplies
- 2x Aerosol
Angel Sword
Swords in Dying Light can help you split your target into two pieces quickly and brutally. At the time of writing, there exist two types of Swords in the game; Long Swords and Short Swords. Long Swords are much more powerful than Short Swords and are extremely effective against strong enemies. As for the Short Swords, while their damage output isn’t as great as Long Swords, they are much quicker than them. Therefore, both have their own purposes.

For this, we will suggest the Angel Sword, which is arguably the best sword in Dying Light. Its damage output is amazing and you won’t regret choosing it as your primary weapon. To acquire it, you’ll first need to get the Angel Sword Blueprint. To do that, you will need to complete the Troll quest in Old Town, and you will then receive the Blueprint as a reward at the end. The following parts are needed to craft the Angel Sword in Dying Light:
- 2x Aerosol
- 2x Batteries
- 2x Metal Parts
- 2x Power Cables
- 2x Duct Tape
- 1x Electronics
The best part is that you can create the Angel Sword by pairing the parts with either a Long Sword or Short Sword. The decision is totally up to you.
Fenris Axe
The Axe is yet another melee weapon on our list that is great for taking down zombies. The biggest downside about the Axe is that it’s slow compared to the other melee weapons on our list. However, this doesn’t mean that you should avoid picking it up considering it can prove to be useful against slow enemies, such as Goons.

If you are someone who is planning to get an Axe, then we will suggest your hands on the Fenris Axe. There are two methods of acquiring the Fenris Axe is Dying Light. The first method includes taking down a Demolisher as they usually drop one upon getting eliminated. However, if you are unable to get one through them, you can follow the second method in which you’ll need to complete a challenge called Bloodlust Bounty. The challenge requires you to chop off three zombies in a single hit, and you’ll need to do it thirty times. This might sound challenging and all, but it isn’t as difficult as it sounds like. We will suggest you use a Katana for this purpose, a weapon we’ll talk about later.
Police Rifle
Without a single doubt, the Police Rifle is one of the greatest weapons in Dying Light because of many reasons. It’s not that difficult to get, its fire rate is amazing, and you won’t get the chance to complain about its accuracy. Its semi-automatic mechanism is something that can help you clear crowds of enemies quickly. However, the biggest downside about the weapon is that compared to other firearms present in the game, its bullets are not easy to find. But this won’t be a problem if you’re someone who can make every bullet count.

The easiest way of acquiring the Police Rife is by purchasing it from the shop for $10350. But if you’re not planning to spend any money on it, then you can try finding it in the trunks of Police Vans. The Police Rifle is also used by Rais’ thugs and you can loot it from them after taking them down. Overall, the weapon is amazing and there isn’t any reason for you to not give it a try.
Semi-Auto Shotgun
Shotguns, in general, are absolutely deadly in close-range combat. They can destroy your enemy in a single shot, and even the one behind them will get affected by it. In Dying Light, there are multiple shotguns to choose from, but the best one is the Semi-Auto Shotgun, another weapon that is available for only those who have The Following expansion.

Just like the Police Rifle, you can purchase this weapon directly from the store for $14795. You can also find it inside a random military crate. The damage output of this weapon is absolutely amazing and you can take down a powerful enemy with only a few shots. It can help you clear crowds easily as well and you can expect it to help you get out of critical situations as well. Overall, the weapon is a beast and you should definitely add it to your inventory if you want something that can help you take down strong enemies instantly.
EXPcalibur
While we have already mentioned a sword before, the list would be incomplete without the EXPcalibur. A lot of players don’t know about it because of one obvious reason; it’s supposed to be a secret weapon. Well, it won’t be a secret anymore as we’ll let you know how to get it.

The EXPcalibur can deal a lot of damage with each hit, something that makes it one of the best weapons to use in Dying Light. To get the sword, you will need to visit the Southeast area of the Slums right next to the Fisherman’s Village. From there, you will need to make your way to a small rocky island by swimming, where the Sword will waiting for you to pick it up by pulling it out from a dead body. To do that, you will need to hold the action button for a couple of minutes and the sword will then come out. Make sure to get back from the body as soon as you get the sword in your hand as the body will instantly start burning and can kill you if you’re near it.
After the flame vanishes, you’ll be able to pick up a Blueprint as well, the one that will help you transform the sword into the powerful EXPcalibur. For this purpose, you’ll need the following parts:
- 10x Tin Can.
- 10x Alcohol.
- 5x Electronics.
- 10x Metal Parts.
- 1x Bolter Tissue.
- 10x Plastic.
While it may seem like a time-consuming task, the effort will be worth it as you’ll be able to get your hands on one of the most powerful weapons available in Dying Light.
Sledgehammer
Are you tired of taking out one zombie at a time? Are you looking for a weapon that can help you clear a large crowd of zombies at once? Well then, you don’t need to look further as the Sledgehammer has got your back. This weapon is, without a single doubt, one of the most powerful weapons in the entire game. It falls in the category of Heavy Weapons and why wouldn’t it? I mean, it is something that can destroy multiple enemies with a single swing.

The biggest downside about the Sledgehammer is its speed. Since it’s a heavy weapon, you can’t expect it to swing at the same speed as the Baseball Bat or a Katana. However, this can be easily overlooked considering it takes down multiples zombies in a single swing. The best part is that you can increase its power by applying different mods to it. If you’re someone who’s interested in getting the Sledgehammer, then you can either find it as random loot or you can visit the shop to purchase it.
Toxic Reaper Machete
The Machete, for some, is the an outstanding weapon to use in Dying Light. This is mainly because it deals a lot of damage with a single hit, isn’t slow, and can help you take down every kind of enemy. The only bothering thing about the Machete is that you won’t be able to find it in the early stages of the game. It will start appearing only after you have made significant progress in the game. However, this isn’t that big of a concern considering you kind of won’t need the Machete for the weak enemies that appear at the start. However, in the late game, you just can’t survive without it.

For the Machete, we will suggest you get the Toxic Reaper blueprint for it. This Blueprint can be found inside a Yellow Van that is located inside a tunnel in Old Town. After you have acquired the Toxic Reaper Blueprint, you’ll need the following parts for the crafting process:
- 1x Duct Tape
- 2x Blades
- 2x Metal Parts
- 1x Nails
- 2x Aerosol
- 1x Electronics
Katana
Being capable of slicing everything that comes in its path, the Katana is the best weapon in Dying Light. The best part about it is that it can take down an enemy with only one hit, something that can help you clear crowds of enemies quickly. It’s not slow either like the Long Sword or the Sledgehammer, and it definitely isn’t something that will let you down when you need it the most.

However, keep in mind that you can acquire the Katana only when you reach Level 16. Furthermore, you can upgrade the weapon by applying different modes to it as well. However, if you’re someone who owns The Following expansion, then we will suggest you go with the Premium Katana.
This was all regarding the best weapons to use in Dying Light. We hope that our guide will help you select the right ones for your journey. Before you leave, also make sure to check out the best Resident Evil Village weapons and the best weapons in PUBG as well.
