BG3: How To Solve The Riddle Of The Night

The Riddle Of The Night is a tricky riddle in BG3 that you will encounter in the Gauntlet Of Shar Library. From my experience, solving it will require patience as you must go through some stages that involve fighting enemies and going through traps. Also, after getting through it, you will get two useful items.

What Is The Riddle of The Night In Baldur’s Gate 3

It is a puzzle that I found located near the locked area in the Gauntlet Of Shar Library.

Solving the puzzle will reward you with incredible collectibles. I discovered that the puzzle takes little time to crack but may be tricky initially.

How To Find The Riddle Of The Night

First, you must reach the Riddle Of The Night at the secret chamber inside the Gauntlet Of Shar Library.

Afterward, you have to defeat Justiciar guards and pass obstacles. 

Location

To reach the Riddle Of The Night, I advise you to find the library of Gauntlet of Shar and pave your way through enemies. Before you enter the library, prepare your spells, as you will face many obstacles. Here is how you can find the riddle

1. Go to the lowest floor on Gauntlet Of Shar
2. Walk along the corridors to find the Faith Leap Trial’s room.
3. Once you are in there, the library is on the left of it.

Fighting Enemies

The undead Justiciar Guards will await you as you enter the Silent Library. They may not be dangerous, but in my opinion, they are problematic when they attack a group. Moreover, you cannot cast a spell as the Librarian already has blocked any magic in the region; neither an ally nor an enemy can use it.

If your crew uses magic, I recommend you first take out the librarian. Then, you can use magic to defeat other enemies.

Traps

Along the way, you will face three kinds of traps which I’ve highlighted below:

1. Button Traps: These can electrocute you; disable them with left mouse buttons
2. Gas Pit Tentacles: You can get attacked by tentacles in the gas pit; disarm these traps to avoid damage.
3. Bookshelves Traps: They damage you by splashing acid.

Solving The Riddle

You can unlock the puzzle by following my steps below:

1. After crossing the traps, go to the locked area by opening a gate at the room’s rear.
2. Press the button to the right of the puzzle room. Press it without any hesitation, as it will not electrocute you.
3. After this, you will enter the riddle “What can silence the Nightsong?”.
4. You will find a pedestal nearby where you have to place a book.
5. Find the book Teachings Of Loss: The Nightsinger on the bookshelf just out of your room.
6. Walk straight out and go to the first set of stairs
7. Find the book on the second bookshelf; disarm it first.
8. As you open the book, it will display a complex clue. 
9. Reading it may confuse you, but you must place the book on the pedestal.

Rewards

After solving the BG3 Riddle Of The Night, you will notice the statue behind the pedestal slowly descending. After the darkness has settled, the room with the loot will be visible. You will find two collectibles.

1. First is the Spear Of Night, which  is a simple, versatile weapon with the following stats
   • Rarity: Rare
   • Value: 190 GP
   • Weight: 1.35 KG
   • Damage: 3-10
2. The second is a Dark Justiciar Helmet which you will find in a gilded chest after finding the spear. You will get a +1 Bonus when saving throws against spells.
