Baldur’s Gate 3: Location Of Ansur [How To Beat]

After spending more than 30 hours exploring Baldurs Gate, this is my guide on how to effectively find and defeat Ansur.

Dragon Ansur in BG3 is a powerful dragon and boss enemy that the player must defeat. It is located in the Dragon’s Sanctum, accessible through The Wyrmway underneath Wyrm’s Rock. However, once you reach Ansur, defeating it is entirely another challenge since the dragon has a large health pool of 400-600+ HP.

Key Takeaways
  • Ansur is a dragon boss enemy in Baldur’s Gate 3 that must be defeated in the Dragon’s Sanctum past the Wyrmway under Wyrm’s Rock.
  • Saving Duke Ravengard makes accessing Ansur more difficult.
  • Ansur has high health and uses devastating lightning charged attacks, so use ranged attacks on it to avoid opportunity attacks in melee.
  • Cast Globe of Invulnerability to protect from Stormheart Nova blast.
  • Stun Ansur during Nova cast to earn Crash Landing achievement.
  • Ansur’s loot includes Balduran’s Giantslayer and Helm Of Balduran.

The legendary dragon Ansur can be defeated in BG3, but only after completing key preliminary tasks. First, you must solve the puzzle presented in the Legend of Ansur book, which provides clues to unlocking the dragon’s sanctum. Additionally, you need to clear all the puzzle challenges located throughout Wyrmway Dungeon.

These consist of the puzzles in the Chamber of Justice, Chamber of Insight, Chamber of Strategy, and Chamber of Courage. Solving each puzzle will grant access to the next challenge. Once you have completed all of these trials, travel to the Dragon’s Sanctum chamber to confront Ansur.

How To Find Ansur

Here’s how you can locate Ansur by following these steps:

  1. Access Dragon Ansur in Lost Ark by locating the Dragon’s Sanctum past The Wyrmway beneath Wyrm’s Rock.
  2. Entry becomes challenging if you’ve already saved Duke Ravengard, turning Wyrm’s Rock fortress hostile.
  3. Enter Wyrm’s Rock through the open south gate and navigate ledges on the cliff face to reach a beach below.
  4. Discover a pipe on the beach providing direct access to The Wyrmway, contingent on having the “Gaseous Form” spell.
  5. Alternatively, if Duke Ravengard hasn’t been saved, reach The Wyrmway through the prison in the northwest corner of Wyrm’s Rock by entering the Iron Gates

How To Beat Ansur

Ansur has a massive health pool of 400 hit points and is level 17, indicating his formidable strength. Joining Ansur are arrays of water-based enemies such as myrmidons and elementals. Ansur is a formidable foe that will test your party’s best skills and push them to the limits.

Follow this strategy to Beat Ansur efficiently:

  1. Focus fire Water Myrmidons before concentrating attacks on Ansur.
  2. Use ranged and area-of-effect attacks rather than close melee combat to avoid its opportunity attacks.
  3. Ansur will gather power for its devastating Stormheart Nova, signaling with a hover.
  4. When Stormheart Nova happens, cast Globe of Invulnerability to protect the party from the incoming blast.
  5. Bring a caster for crowd control spells to stun Ansur and interrupt his charge.
  6. Position party members widely around the arena to minimize lightning strikes.
  7. Dispel any electrical charges Ansur absorbs to prevent strengthening its strikes.

Some Pro Tips Against The Boss

Personally, the below tips helped me in beating Ansur:

  1. Have a party with a high-damage melee character like a Wildheart Barbarian.
  2. And Cleric for healing/support like Shadowheart with her best build.
  3. A Ranger for extra damage like Astarion, and a Wizard like Gale for control spells.
  4. Use potions of lightning resistance on melee characters to resist Ansur’s lightning damage.
  5. Position squishy characters like Gale carefully to avoid getting hit by Ansur’s knockback and fly attacks.
  6. Use Gale’s Globe of Invulnerability to make the party immune to damage during Ansur’s big attacks, and thus, position it carefully so Ansur can’t benefit from it.
  7. Use Gale’s Telekinesis to throw the additional enemies that spawn into the abyss at the start.
  8. Use Shadowheart’s Aid spell to give everyone extra health.
  9. Rage with the Barbarian for damage reduction, as Magic is less effective on Ansur.
