Cyberpunk 2077: How To Play In 3rd Person

Players can experience Cyberpunk 2077 3rd-person mode through the use of a mod, providing gamers with a new way to immerse themselves in the game’s futuristic setting. Although originally designed for first-person gameplay, the third-person mod allows players to appreciate the detailed character designs, appreciate the vast cityscape, and enhance situational awareness during combat. 

How To Play Cyberpunk 2077 In Third-Person Mode

There is no official way in Cyberpunk 2077 to play it in the 3rd person except while you are in driving mode. You can press Q or press right on the d-pad (controller) while driving to change camera views. Nevertheless, there is a way, thanks to the modders, to play the full game in 3rd person. You can install JB – TPP MOD WIP third person, which Jelle Bakker developed. This mod is available on Nexus Mods.

These are the steps I have taken to install the Cyberpunk 2077 Third Person mod.

1. First, download the Cyber Engine Tweaks.
2. Once downloaded, extract it to the bin folder of Cyberpunk 2077.
3. For example, C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Cyberpunk 2077.
4. The Cyber Engine Tweaks file should now be in your x64 folder.
5. Close down applications like Afterburner, Discord, and Steam as they add overlays to Cyberpunk 2077.
6. Download the actual third-person mod after you have chosen your gender perspective for the mod.
7. Once downloaded, navigate to the mods folder and extract it into the cyber engine tweaks folder.
8. For example, C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Cyberpunk 2077.
9. Once the procedure is complete, launch Cyberpunk 2077.
10. As you start Cyberpunk 2077, it will ask you to choose a key bind for Cyber Engine Tweaks Overlay. Choose any key. It will be used to open the overlay.
11. Open Hotkeys Tab and Assign key binds to the functions by clicking on the hotkey.
12. Choose “not bound” next to the option you want to assign, and then choose the key.
13. You will find 3 tabs under hotkeys which are hotkeys and inputs.
14. When you click inputs, you will find hold keys like zoom in and out, move the camera, and 360 camera rotation.

Glitches

As you will observe, the mod has some glitches. The characters look a little odd as their legs and arms move unnaturally, which accounts for the intended first-person view. Also, other bugs may be expected. Nevertheless, it still is a great tweak to enable 3rd person in Cyberpunk 2077, and the feature may get officially added to Cyberpunk 2077. Mod Requirements

The only requirement of this mod is to have installed the Cyber Engine Tweak mod. It is a plug-in that gets placed into Cyberpunk 2077 and lets you add other mods. Other than this, you should have Cyberpunk 2077 itself.

My Experience With The Third-Person Perspective Mod

Unfortunately, from my experience, Cyberpunk 2077’s third-person mod was a bit of a letdown. The game’s visuals took a noticeable hit, with characters moving in somewhat awkward and unnatural ways, which clearly indicated that Cyberpunk 2077 wasn’t meant to be played from this perspective.

While the third-person mode did offer a different viewpoint, it just didn’t sit well with the game’s overall design. It’s evident that the game was crafted with a first-person experience in mind, and trying to force it into a third-person perspective didn’t do justice to its details.

Quickly realizing that the mod wasn’t enhancing my experience, I promptly removed it, opting to stick with the intended first-person gameplay that Cyberpunk 2077 was designed around.
