Steam recently updated the store page for one of the most anticipated games of 2023 – Hogwarts Legacy. And with it, we just got information on the minimum and preferred system specifications needed to run Hogwarts Legacy on PC.
- Hogwarts Legacy’s store page on Steam got updated on January 12, 2023, detailing the entire set of requirements for running the game.
- The requirements themselves are not too high-demanding and can run on most mid-range PCs.
- Hogwarts Legacy also features Ray Tracing support to add more breathtaking visuals that all high-end GPUs can take advantage of.
- The game is set to release on the PC, Steam Deck, and current-gen as well as last-gen consoles.
Minimum And Recommended System Requirements
Judging from other major game releases in 2023 and even 2022, we can expect that Hogwarts Legacy will have similar system requirements. This includes having at least a 4GB GDDR5 GPU and a 4-core Processor with a high clock speed. According to the Steam Store Page on Hogwarts Legacy, these are the entire set of system requirements:
Minimum Requirements | Recommended Requirements | |
OS | Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit) | Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit) |
Processor | Intel Core i5-6600 @3.2GHz or AMD Ryzen 5 1400 @3.2 GHz | Intel Core i7-8700 @3.2GHz or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 @3.6 GHz |
RAM | 16 GB | 16 GB |
GPU | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 4GB or AMD Radeon RX 470 4GB | NVIDIA GeForce 1080 Ti or AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT or INTEL Arc A770 |
DirectX | 12 | 12 |
Storage | 85 GB Disk Space Needed | 85 GB Disk Space Needed |
Additional Notes | SSD (Preferred), HDD (Supported), 720p/30 fps, Low-Quality Settings | SSD, 1080p/60 fps, High-Quality Settings |
The memory requirements being the same in both the minimum and recommended requirements suggest the game will indefinitely hog a lot of your RAM. And since Hogwarts Legacy is open-world, it’ll also take up a decent chunk of your storage. You can pre-load 76GB of the game on Xbox Series consoles right now; other than that. However, the rest of the hardware specifications listed here seem to be on par with those of other modern AAA releases.

WB Games Support has also confirmed that Hogwarts Legacy will run smoothly on the Steam Deck. That’ll give you a chance to play the game on a handheld console much earlier, along with the PC release.
Maximum Requirements
Of course, the hardware requirements mentioned above will get you either a decent 720p or a smooth 1080p experience. So to get great performance on 1440p or 4K at Ultra Settings, you likely need some of the best hardware on the market.
This includes the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3000/4000 or AMD Radeon RX 6000/7000 series for a GPU, and at least Intel 12th Generation or AMD Ryzen 5000 series for a CPU. Along with that, you’ll also need to have a recommended amount of 32 GB RAM to avoid any stutter during your gameplay.
Fortunately for high-end GPU users, Hogwarts Legacy will feature Ray Tracing support, including options to toggle shadows, reflections, and ambient occlusion. Furthermore, the added support of NVIDIA’s DLSS 3.0 and AMD FSR 2.0 means you’ll be able to squeeze out a few more FPS.
Release Info For Hogwarts Legacy
This much-awaited title is set to release on February 10, 2023, for PC as well as current-gen consoles, including the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Hogwarts Legacy will also be playable for the Steam Deck on the same date.

Avalanche Software later plans to make the game available for purchase for last-gen consoles, including the PlayStation 4/4 Pro and the Xbox One lineup, on April 4, 2023, with the final release on the Nintendo Switch on July 25, 2023.
Wrap-Up
That concludes our brief guide on gearing up your system for Hogwarts Legacy as per the requirements on Steam. The game is available for pre-purchase, so it looks like we won’t have to see any last-minute delays or hiccups.
With all the system requirements laid out, the game doesn’t seem to have a particularly high power demand. It roughly has the same requirements as other AAA releases in 2023, like Forspoken, and thus it shouldn’t have a wildly different performance gap. With properly fleshed-out optimization, we can expect this title to run fairly decent on last-gen consoles and even modest PCs as well.
